The ESPN analyst weighed in on the recent news involving the Nets star guard.
Shortly after Kyrie Irving reportedly requested a trade from the Nets on Friday, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith was not thrilled about the decision made by the eight-time All-Star.
“Idiotic,” Smith told ESPN’s Malika Andrews on NBA Today.
Irving, who is in his fourth season with the Nets, requested to be moved by the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 9, according to The Athletic’s Sham Charania. If Irving is not traded, he will not re-sign with Brooklyn when he enters free agency following the 2022-23 season.

The Nets star’s trade request comes as little surprise based on his past behavior, but it’s unclear how it’ll help him grab a long-term deal.
Same as he ever was, Kyrie Irving. Big talent, bigger headache. Months after detonating the Nets chances of success last season by refusing to take the New York-mandated COVID-19 vaccine—a decision that limited Irving to 29 games and was reportedly among the reasons James Harden asked to be traded—Irving is at it again, a week before the trade deadline, demanding to be shipped out of town.
Yeesh.

Kyrie Irving, once again, requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets and gave them six days to do it with the NBA Trade Deadline coming up. After the news broke, LeBron James tweeted a simple tweet with the eyes and crown emojis. Rumors of a Kyrie-LeBron reunion have been consistent among trade talks and Kyrie’s relationship with Brooklyn. Emmanuel Acho, Joy Taylor, LeSean McCoy and David Helman discuss whether LeBron should want Kyrie on the Los Angeles Lakers or not.

Both players were ejected after a brief fight during Thursday’s game in Cleveland.

The NBA announced discipline for Donovan Mitchell and Dillon Brooks on Friday on the heels of their scuffle during the Cavaliers’ 128–113 victory over the Grizzlies in Cleveland Thursday night.
Brooks received a one-game suspension without pay while Mitchell was assessed a fine of $20,000 for their roles in the altercation, which resulted in the ejection of both players in the third quarter.

Las Vegas has reportedly permitted the four-time Pro Bowler to discuss trade negotiations with different franchises.
The Raiders have allowed Derek Carr permission to speak with teams that have agreed to meet the compensation expectations that the franchise is seeking in exchange for the quarterback’s services, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The news also comes a day after Carr said that nothing had been set in stone about his next home in the NFL.

Tom Brady is retired. Or so he says.
The greatest quarterback of all-time announced his decision to hang it up earlier this week and went out in a brief, fairly anti-climactic manner. He said his piece, hit post, and moved onto the next chapter of his career, which includes a $300+ million broadcasting deal and a step into Hollywood.

’80 For Brady’ Is A Touchdown! (Non-Spoiler Review)

If this is really it, which Brady says that it is, his career numbers speak for themselves. The 45-year-old had a remarkable run that will almost certainly not be matched, ever.
