Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins’s 22-game absence is because his father, Mitchell, has been working through a “serious medical situation,” The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Monday.
Wiggins, who has been away from the team since mid-February, was reportedly set to return this week after dealing with a “family matter,” per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Neither Wiggins nor the team have confirmed the reason for his prolonged absence.
According to Charania, Wiggins is expected to attend (but not play in) the team’s Tuesday game against the Thunder.

An irregular college basketball season will come to an irregular conclusion Monday night, with a No. 4 seed battling a No. 5 seed for the sport’s national championship.
Here are four reasons why the matchup between Connecticut and San Diego State is something everyone should be excited about.
1.

Given that Greg Norman is the CEO of LIV, his opinion suggesting that people — and the Masters as a tournament — should want to see LIV golfers contend at Augusta National is biased. But that doesn’t mean he’s wrong.
A total of 18 LIV golfers will be teeing it up in the Masters later this week. It will be the first Masters contested with LIV golfers in the field as the likes of Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Cam Smith, Patrick Reed, and Bryson DeChambeau headline the group of players that have bolted for the Saudi-backed circuit.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport believes the “best case” for Lamar Jackson and the Ravens is to have the quarterback return to Baltimore in 2023, the insider said on Monday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show.
The Ravens and Jackson were unable to come to an agreement on a long-term contract extension, forcing the team to apply the non-exclusive franchise tag on the 26-year-old quarterback in March. Jackson has yet to sign the tender, and other teams are allowed to negotiate with him though Baltimore reserves the right to match any offer he receives.

After missing 21 games, Warriors wing Andrew Wiggins is nearing a return and is expected to play this week, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Wiggins missed the large chunk of time because his father, Mitchell, has been dealing with a serious medical situation, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
For Golden State, his return couldn’t have come at a better time with the regular season nearing an end. The Warriors (41–38) are currently the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference, but their playoff position is anything but safe.
Only two wins separate the No. 5 and No.

NBC is expected to hire Islanders announcer Brendan Burke as the lead play-by-play broadcaster for Peacock’s MLB Sunday Leadoff, The New York Post’s Andrew Marchand reports.
Last year, NBC aired a baseball game every Sunday morning during the regular season on its Peacock streaming service as part of a new deal with MLB. The network had play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti at every game, along with two color commentators from each team playing that day.

At the end of the battle between two of the best women’s basketball programs in the nation, LSU head coach Kim Mulkey had nothing but praise for Iowa’s Caitlin Clark.
Mulkey and Clark met in the postgame handshake line after LSU had defeated Iowa 102-85 in the national championship. Mulkey was set to celebrate the fourth championship of her career after Clark and the Hawkeyes gave them everything they had in the final game.

The WPGA Tour of Australasia — a small professional women’s golf tour based in Australia — just announced Breanna Gill as the winner of the Australian Women’s Classic Bonville.
“Showing nerves of steel, Breanna Gill triumphed in a playoff for her first professional win at the #AusWomensClassic!” the WPGA Tour tweeted Sunday.

The problem is Gill, by all accounts, is not actually a woman.
