The Angels acquired Lucas Giolito, arguably the best pitcher on the trade market, and reliever Reynaldo Lopez from the White Sox for two top prospects after deciding they would not trade star Shohei Ohtani before he hits free agency this winter.

The sequence changed the game, and it could come to epitomize this team. The Netherlands’ Daniëlle van de Donk knocked down the U.S.’s Lindsey Horan. Horan was most displeased. They jawed at each other. The fact that van de Donk and Horan are club teammates for Lyon was either irrelevant or especially relevant; they would have to say how they truly feel about each other. It was so testy that the ref tried to negotiate some sort of truce. Well, world peace has to start somewhere. But not there, not then. Horan did not go all the way to Wellington, New Zealand, to make peace.

The U.S. women’s national team survived a scare from the Netherlands, walking away from Wednesday’s group-stage game with a 1–1 draw after trailing the Oranje for much of the match. After going down a goal in the 17th minute, the USWNT was forced to play from behind in the Women’s World Cup for the first time since 2011. A dramatic second-half set piece from Lindsey Horan ultimately saved the USWNT from disaster, with the U.S. captain nodding in a corner in the 62nd minute following an impassioned exchange with Lyon teammate Daniëlle van de Donk over a crunching tackle.

The Angels and White Sox reportedly agreed to a trade which will send Lucas Giolito to Anaheim, Chicago confirmed Thursday night.
Just hours after SI’s Tom Verducci reported that Shohei Ohtani had been taken off the trade market, the Angels went out and fortified their pitching staff with the acquisition of the former All-Star.
The full trade will see Giolito and Reynaldo López dealt to Anaheim in exchange for a pair of top prospects: catcher Edgar Quero and left-handed pitcher Ky Bush.
Quero is ranked as the No. 65 prospect in MLB, and the pair were rated as the’ No. 2 and No.
