1. “I’ve always wanted to ask you this. Why did you throw the soup?”
That was JJ Redick to J.R. Smith on the latest edition of Redick’s The Old Man and the Three podcast.
I’ve been writing a daily online column since 2007 and one of my all-time favorite stories ever came in ’18 when then Cavaliers forward J.R. Smith was suspended after he threw soup on assistant coach Damon Jones.
Smith explained to Redick what happened on that day.

“Damon Jones is my guy,” said Smith. “I love DJones. Everybody knows. But he has a knack for playing too much.

Lane Kiffin is not one to mince his words. The 47-year-old may not be as old as some of his SEC or college football counterparts, but he has lived a lot of life and no longer tries to be someone he is not.
Although Kiffin isn’t afraid to speak his mind, he tries to focus on the positive. Even when he’s pissed.
Auburn fired Bryan Harsin on Halloween last fall. Kiffin was linked to the job on The Plains as soon as he was let go. He was the Tigers’ top target.
Kiffin ultimately ended up staying at Ole Miss, but not before a report stated that his move to Auburn was imminent.

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith still has full confidence in football coach Ryan Day despite back-to-back losses to rival Michigan.
Smith told ESPN’s Heather Dinich that while his standards are high, he believes that Day is the best man for the job.
“My standards are high. Our team standards are high,” Smith said. “So we talk about how do we get better and how do we make sure we are able to win the championships that we aspire to win? We look at each individual contest that got in the way of that, and we’re trying to figure out what’s the strategy to mitigate that.

Rookie tight ends have been about as productive in fantasy football as The Dude, Jeff Bridges’s lazy character, in the film “The Big Lebowski.” Historically, it’s just not a position that’s thrived in the stat sheets among the youngsters. I chronicled this in my look back at the top rookie fantasy tight ends over the last 23 NFL seasons.
There wasn’t much to like, unfortunately.
Last season, not a single first-year tight end scored over 100 fantasy points. The best of the bunch, Chigoziem Okonkwo, scored 97.2 points and finished as the TE25.

Zach LaVine delivered one of his best games ever when the Bulls really needed it.
Arguably the most famous scene in the movie The Sandlot is when Babe Ruth’s ghost visits the film’s main character, Benjamin Rodriguez (aka “Benny the Jet”), to impart some precious wisdom to him.
“Let me tell you something, kid. Everybody gets one chance to do something great. Most people never take the chance, either because they’re too scared or they don’t recognize it when it spits on their shoes. This is your big chance.

Alabama quarterback Bryce Young has consistently been considered the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL draft and ESPN’s Adam Schefter is so confident in the scenario that he doesn’t think Young should visit any other teams.
“Bryce Young is gonna visit the Houston Texans—I think it’s a waste of time,” Schefter said Wednesday. “I think the ship has sailed. I think Bryce Young is gonna be the No. 1 pick. They’re [Texans] not gonna have a chance to take the guy that, I think, they would’ve liked to have taken. So now they’re sitting there at No.
