The Angels kicked off their 2023 season by looking very much like the Angels—they had Shohei Ohtani pitch six scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts and then once he was done on the mound they gave up a pair of runs and lost to the A’s, 2–1.
The Angels have two of the best players in the world in Ohtani and Mike Trout yet somehow struggle to be relevant past the first month of the season.
The team, however, did have the coolest play of maybe the year on Thursday when right fielder Hunter Renfroe made an incredible no-look catch on a hard hit ball.

Opening Day lived up to expectations with more stolen bases, some upset wins, and dominant performances from both pitchers (Gerrit Cole, Dylan Cease) and hitters (Adley Rutschman, C.J. Cron).
We also saw more than a few aces struggle (Jacob deGrom, Corbin Burnes, Alek Manoah) and Aaron Judge pick up right where he left off, hitting a home run in his first at-bat of the season.
So, what will Friday have in store for us? I don’t know about you, but I’m eager to find out.

It’s the toughest defense in the country against the most productive offense in the country. A No. 1 seed against a No. 2 seed. Last season’s National Player of the Year against this season’s National Player of the Year. An undefeated squad defending its championship against a program making its deepest tournament run in decades.
In other words? When South Carolina meets Iowa in the women’s Final Four on Friday night, they’ll offer a dream clash of styles, personalities and story lines.

It’s a bit strange but not surprising that the Seahawks’ easygoing decision-makers are posting selfies with the top quarterback prospects during pro day visits. Remember, Pete Carroll took shirtless photos with DK Metcalf after drafting the wide receiver in 2019.
It’s also a brilliant smokescreen tactic for possibly convincing other teams that Seattle is seriously considering taking a quarterback with the No. 5 pick next month in Kansas City.

Which teams jockeying for position in the Western Conference playoff race are most likely to win a first round series?
Woah, woah, woah. Pump the brakes here.
We’re doing this all wrong.
The framing of the Western Conference jumble has been built around which teams are streaking and which are sliding as analysts and fans alike try to figure out which teams will make it to the playoffs. Seeds 4 thru 10 are all up for grabs and within reach of each other. Two unlucky franchises will miss the play-in tournament altogether.

Miami coach Jim Larranaga is in the Final Four, but that doesn’t mean he’s content with the NCAA Tournament format.
The Hurricanes will play UConn Saturday night for a chance to go to the national title game. Given the fact Miami and Larranaga are in the Final Four and 40 minutes out from playing in the championship, you might think he’d be very happy with how the 68-team field works.
Nope!
Larrange said during his press availability Thursday afternoon that he’d like to see the field expand to a staggering 96 teams.

Here are our picks for the men’s and women’s Final Four.
We are down to the last eight teams in college basketball.
Over the next few days both the Men’s Final Four and the Women’s Final Four will unfold in the heart of Texas. How do our writers see these games playing out? Let’s dive in.
Men’s Final Four
Florida Atlantic (9-seed) vs. San Diego State (5-seed)
During a meeting earlier this week, the conversation among the writers here at SBNation shifted to the men’s and the women’s Final Fours.

We’re 16 days past the official start of NFL free agency. And while signings will continue for months ahead, the crush of moves are behind us.
In the NFC, we saw a few teams splurge on talent, while a few didn’t make a single, impactful signing. The most important move was finished before free agency began, with the Saints signing quarterback Derek Carr to a four-year deal, potentially sparking a few other NFC South teams to be aggressive in the weeks that followed.
So which teams did the best? Which ones spent regrettable money?

Colin Cowherd wasn’t impressed with Will Levis showing off the fact he’s in shape.
The former Kentucky QB and likely first round pick made some waves when he shared photos of himself on social media looking more like a bodybuilder than an elite passer.
Cowherd, like many others, wasn’t impressed by Levis‘ antics on social media. In fact, he thinks it’s a sign Will Levis has zero self-awareness.
