As the 2023 USFL season got underway over the weekend, John DeFilippo did something that he had always dreamed about and ran onto the field as a head football coach. It was a moment that was way bigger than sports.

Shohei Ohtani got the start for the Los Angeles Angels in Monday’s matinee against the Boston Red Sox, which means we get more fun highlights of the coolest player in baseball doing things that nobody else really can.
The right-hander has some of the nastiest stuff in baseball, and that filthy stuff was on display at Fenway Park, where he threw a number of pitches with so much movement that they looked like frisbees out there sailing in the wind.
These pitches also made a couple of professional hitters look really silly.

Max Holloway put his “Blessed Express” back on the right track on Saturday night, making a stop in the heartland of America to defeat Arnold Allen by unanimous decision.
“I’m still here,” says Holloway, who was coming off a one-sided defeat last summer against Alexander Volkanovski. “You’re only as good as your last fight. Now I have this one. It felt good to jog people’s memories.”
With the victory in hand, Holloway (24-7) now has his sights set on reclaiming the featherweight title.

Jalen Hurts, a former second-round pick, is now the highest-paid player in NFL history. He’s started at quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles for two seasons. In one of those seasons, he posted elite numbers. So, what does that mean for the Cincinnati Bengals and former #1 overall pick Joe Burrow, who has lived up to every bit of his lofty expectations?
It’s complicated.
According to NFL.com, Hurts’ contract is a five-year, $255 million contract extension with $179.3 million in total guarantees.
We are only 17 days into the 2023 MLB season, but here are some early trends we are watching.
When we checked in last Monday, 78 games had hit the over (57.4%) as compared to 58 games with the under (42.6%). The numbers have evened a bit this week, but the over is still in the majority with 123 games (54.7%) going over and 102 games (45.3%) going under this year. Offense is up around the league, with an average of 4.66 runs per game as compared to 4.28 in 2022 — and it’s only April. As the weather starts to warm, we may see an even bigger difference.
1. How many analysts would have the guts to call out a league and, in a way, his own network on that network’s pregame show before a playoff game?
One.
Charles Barkley.
Barkley was not happy with a 10:30 p.m. ET start time for the Timberwolves and Nuggets on Sunday night.
Instead of having games at 1 p.m. ET, 3:30 p.m. ET, 6 p.m. ET and 8 p.m. ET, the NBA opted for 3:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. start times for Sunday’s four playoff games.
“I have a problem with that game starting at 10:30,” Barkley said on TNT before Minnesota and Denver tipped off.
The Eagles and quarterback Jalen Hurts have reached agreement on a five-year, $255 million extension, including $179.304 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Steve Maclin is the new face of Impact Wrestling.
Impact crowned a new world champion Sunday night at Rebellion, as Maclin defeated Kushida to claim the vacant title.
Maclin, who is United States Marine Corps veteran Stephen Kupryk, served two tours of Afghanistan during his time in the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines infantry battalion. Now he is living out a dream that was once the topic of conversation 14 years ago while deployed in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province.
When the NBA playoffs roll around, we’re often asking which players have the most pressure on them or have the most to lose with a disappointing exit. Today, we are daring to ask: Which fan base will be the most upset if their favorite team flames out early? Here are the fans who have the most on the line this postseason, ranked from “Isn’t this lovely?” to “If I see our GM on the street it’s on sight.”
16. Kings
Everything is gravy for Sacramento, which is in the postseason for the first time since 2006.
