A season after going 62–100, the Reds have gradually emerged as one of baseball’s best stories in 2023. Ignited by the promotion of highly touted infield prospect Elly De La Cruz, Cincinnati has won eight consecutive games to move within a half-game of the first-place Brewers in the NL Central.
Monday evening, the Reds took their feel-good 2023 to a new level.

Not only was the 104.3 mph sinker Hicks’s fastest pitch since 2019, but the pitch’s late movement also makes things truly unfair.
Lane Thomas stood no chance against Hicks, who picked up his third save in as many days, capping off the trio of outings with what was arguably his best pitch of the season.

The first-year sensation in the big leagues continues to dish out highlight-worthy plays and exhibit reality-defying speed. What appeared like a routine groundout for De La Cruz on Sunday, facing off against the Astros, became another show-stopping moment for the rook.
