The Bucks fired coach Mike Budenholzer on Thursday following their first-round exit from the NBA playoffs.
While some fans were shocked that Milwaukee would part ways with their coach just two years after the team won the NBA title, the firing actually seems to follow an odd pattern that has emerged in the league over the last few years.
Three of the last four coaches from the NBA championship teams no longer work for the team they won the title with. Nick Nurse coached the 2019 Raptors championship team and he was just fired on April 21.

Two USC journalism students were arrested for the theft of first-round NFL draft jerseys, with the value of the stolen property estimated at over $1,000 dollars.
The pair—Eric Lambkins II and Jude Ocañas—were in Missouri covering the draft for student-run news outlet Annenberg Media as part of USC’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. According to Noah Goldberg of the Los Angeles Times, Lambkins and Ocañas were seen on security footage shortly after 1 a.m. on Friday morning entering NFL draft areas that were restricted.
The Bucks have fired coach Mike Budenholzer after losing in the first round of the playoffs to the Heat.
In the midst of the Mets being swept in a three-game set by the Tigers, reigning National League batting champion Jeff McNeil took issue with umpire Adam Beck during an at-bat in the second inning.
A frustrated McNeil, who went 1-for-10 in the series, was not happy with a called third strike on a pitch that appeared to be out of the zone.
The Mets second baseman, who was already headed up first base after the offering from Detroit’s Eduardo Rodriguez, was stopped in his tracks by a very late call from Beck.
Lost in the excitement of the NFL Draft for fans is that hundreds of young men see their dreams come true. For North Carolina wide receiver Josh Downs, the call from the Indianapolis Colts changed his life.
And he let GM Chris Ballard know exactly how much that meant to him.
Downs received the call surrounded by friends and family, who immediately began shouting with sheer joy and excitement.
It took Downs several moments to gather himself and contain his emotions. But he struggled to contain those emotions, and that’s what makes the video that much more incredible.
It’s been a rough couple weeks for Oakland A’s fans.
The A’s started the 2023 season with low expectations for on-field success, and have somehow still managed to underperform.
As of Thursday afternoon, Oakland is just 6-25. But even that understates just how awful the A’s have been.
Their .194 winning percentage corresponds to a 31-131 regular season.
They’ve been out scored by 123 runs, meaning they’re losing games by an average of nearly four runs per game.
A’s pitching has allowed an average of 7.
Napoli fans celebrated with a beautiful fireworks display all across Naples.
Prior to playing his final NFL season last fall, Tom Brady inked a lucrative, 10-year deal with Fox to become the network’s leading NFL analyst following his retirement. But, according to a recent report from Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, the future Hall of Fame quarterback may be re-considering his options as he settles into his life after football.
In the three months since Brady announced his second (and final) retirement, the legendary QB had largely stayed out of the spotlight throughout his first official post-career offseason.
According to multiple reports, police have responded to a shooting at the Miami-Dade County home of ex-UFC fighter Jorge Masvidal.
Miami TV station Local 10 News reports that at the incident involved one of Masvidal’s family. The recently retired fighter was not.
Police have yet to identify the victim, but they did say that the person is in stable condition with injuries to their “upper extremities.”
Multiple outlets confirmed that the home where the shooting occurred belonged to Masvidal by using property records.
Just over a week after the Bucks’ season ended with a bitterly disappointing first-round loss to the Heat, Milwaukee has parted ways with coach Mike Budenholzer, ending Budenholzer’s five-year run with the franchise.
“The decision to make this change was very difficult,” Bucks general manager Jon Horst said. “Bud helped lead our team for five incredible seasons, to the Bucks’ first title in 50 years, and into an era of sustained success. We are grateful for the culture of winning and leadership that Bud helped create in Milwaukee.”
Why it happened: A first-round exit.
