We take our annual trip too close to the sun, where it’s all about keeping up with the Jameses.

No, Derrick Henry, you are not ‘slow af’
Derrick Henry is off to a tremendous start this season.
Henry leads the NFL with 873 rushing yards, and his 8 rushing touchdowns also top the league along with Kyren Williams of the Los Angeles Rams. Henry also leads the NFL with an average of 124.7 yards per game, and his three runs of over 40 yards on the year trail only Saquon Barkley in that category.
One of those runs came last night in the Baltimore Ravens’ 41-31 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football.
The eighth week of the college football season is in the books, and business has certainly picked up across the country.
Whether it was Georgia beating Texas, with a side of craziness in the third quarter, or Tennessee winning in dramatic fashion against Alabama, we continue to witness some fascinating outcomes around the sport that will impact the college football playoffs.
At the same time, there are some schools that are going to have to look in the mirror, and see if their current head coach is the right guy to lead them into the future.

Before Week 7 of the NFL season could get under way, Dr. Jesse Morse unknowingly found himself in a tense situation: arguing with Christian Watson’s father, Tazim Wajid Wajed, about if the wide receiver had a high ankle sprain or not. By far the most awkward interaction was this exchange, before Morse realized who he was talking to.
“It WAS NOT a high ankle sprain. That was just what they initially thought it was,” wrote Wajed.
“I watched the video, yes, it was,” replied Morse on X (formerly Twitter).

Targeting players perceived as being bad on defense through switches has become an NBA strategy staple, but the data suggests that — at least in most cases — this may be a bad strategy.
At times, Luka Doncic is a liability on the defensive end. When he’s guarding away from the ball, he’s known to lose focus and surrender open shots. He often takes his time getting back on defense, giving away easy transition opportunities.
But when he’s attacked in isolation, he is a completely different defender.

McLaren, Red Bull, and Ferrari head to Mexico City with Constructors’ Championship dreams
When the Formula 1 grid landed in Austin for last week’s United States Grand Prix, the script for the season’s final act seemed rather simple. A two-way fight between McLaren and Red Bull for the Constructors’ Championship. A duel between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen for the Drivers’ Championship. Simple and straightforward.
Charles Leclerc and Ferrari decided to make some edits at the Circuit of the Americas.
The tie between the quarterback and the head coach is everything in the NFL. It must be cement-hardened and unmistakable because the moment it isn’t, one or the other is likely on the way out – and that’s why Deshaun Watson, Bryce Young and Will Levis are worthy of attention now.
On Monday, at three different NFL outposts – Cleveland, Carolina and Tennessee – the issue of the quarterbacks’ future became a topic of discussion with head coaches.
Coaches can usually offer certainty in such conversations. They can speak without equivocation or doublespeak about the future.

Mikal Bridges’ busted jump shot is the NBA’s biggest mystery right now
The New York Knicks have championship expectations entering the 2024-2025 season after an incredibly bold summer that saw the team chase a pair of co-stars for MVP candidate Jalen Brunson. The Knicks’ recent trade for Karl-Anthony Towns has been dissected ad nauseam, but it was a deal they made earlier in the summer that was even more risky.

Jared Goff’s recent play has him finally living up to the hype.
It’s not at all uncommon for an NFL quarterback to go on a one-game heater and never do anything else of import. Mitch(ell) Trubisky of the Chicago Bears once threw five touchdown passes in a single half against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Craig Erickson of the Bucs once singed the Indianapolis Colts with a near-perfect performance.
