The 21-year-old thought he was getting bad news when he was called into the manager’s office.
Anthony Volpe grew up in New Jersey as a Yankees fan and dreamed of wearing the team’s famed pinstripes on Opening Day ever since he was a kid. New York manager Aaron Boone made that dream a reality when he called the 21-year-old shortstop prospect into his office at the end of spring training—but not before making him squirm a bit.
The Yankees posted a video of Volpe coming into the office, and Boone appeared as grim as ever.
“Difficult conversation to have to have,” Boone said.
Now could be a convenient time to get the ball rolling in the right direction with coaches and executives staying at the same hotel in Phoenix for the NFL owners meetings.
It’s going to be an interesting couple of days at the NFL owners meetings at the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix, where you’ll at least have everyone in one place, which could help in one particular situation.
This is a big week on the Aaron Rodgers front.
San Diego State head coach Brian Dutcher was in prime form Sunday after beating Creighton.
The Aztecs punched a ticket to the Final Four after upsetting the Blue Jays in the Elite Eight, and Dutcher will now have the opportunity to coach in his first Final Four as a head coach.
After cutting himself a piece of the net, the man responsible for leading the Aztecs decided to do a trust fall with his players.
Give it a watch below. It’s a perfect example of what makes March Madness the best time of year for sports fans.
Rule changes, revenue sharing and Thursday Night Football flexing will be discussed, but we don’t know who will buy Dan Snyder’s team yet.
You can call this the ‘Not Yet’ owners meeting.
The Commanders’ sale process isn’t quite there yet, so we won’t get any vote on whom Dan Snyder is selling to until at least the May meeting in Minneapolis. Ditto on plans to award Super Bowls LX and LXI, with only two future Super Bowl sites (Las Vegas in February 2024 and New Orleans the year after) set in stone.
We’ve never seen this before.
The 2023 MLB season starts later this week, which means teams still have a few days left to figure things out before the real games begin.
For the Oakland A’s, they might want to work on remembering how many outs there are in an inning, because while that seems like an easy thing to do, they forgot about that during Sunday’s spring training game against the San Francisco Giants and caused total chaos by running off the field after just two outs.
Seriously, that’s a thing that happened in a professional baseball game.

Plus: Mavs lose second straight to Hornets despite Luka being one of three across NBA to score 40+ on night
Less than two weeks remain in the NBA’s 2022-23 regular season, and the standings battles keep heating up; here’s what to look for down the stretch.
Who gets top spot in the East? No. 2 Boston is currently 1.5 games back of No. 1 Milwaukee, and the two will face off on TNT on Thursday.
Who’s stuck in the West play-in? The West’s play-in picture has been a mess all season, and continues to still be now; 4.0 games separate No.
Can NIL uphold a healthy amount of parity in college sports, or will competition collapse if teams with the most money absorb all of the talent?
One ex-NBA player that has adamantly challenged NIL’s impact on college sports is Charles Barkley. As part of his “60 Minutes” episode that aired Sunday, Barkley spoke on the effects Name, Image and Likeness. He speculated that NIL will choke out smaller programs, making a limited number of schools relevant moving forward rather than opening the field.
Nobody likes that the Super Bowl is played on a Sunday. It’s almost as bad as the college football national championship game being played on a Monday. The scheduling makes no sense from a fan’s perspective, and NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt is absolutely sick of it.
While Sunday has long been the NFL’s day, the Super Bowl should be played on a Saturday. Brandt certainly isn’t the first person to suggest that the Super Bowl should be on a Saturday, but he very well could be the only person to actually present the idea to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
The Dallas Mavericks guard did not appreciate the behavior of one Charlotte Hornets spectator.
