The start of the NBA season is here, so let’s predict one breakout player from each Western Conference team ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.
Editor’s Note: This is the Western Conference edition of our series on breakout player candidates for each NBA team in the 2024-25 season. The Eastern Conference edition can be read here.
Every year, each team opens the season with optimism about their new acquisitions or young prospects who are due for a breakout season.

Former Baltimore Ravens superstar Ed Reed appeared on the ‘ManningCast’ on Monday night during his former team’s big-time road win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and things got awkward at one point when a player wearing a guardian cap caught his attention.
As the ‘Monday Night Football’ broadcast showed the Buccaneers in a huddle, Reed noticed offensive lineman Luke Goedeke was wearing a guardian cap.

2024 was a year that made it hard not to feel like we are losing some specific types of sports media forever.
As time hurdles forward and society has progressed according to what technological innovations allow, our lives have picked up pace, to unprecedented, breakneck speeds. We have all these conveniences we didn’t have 25 years ago, and counterintuitively, less time than we’ve ever had to enjoy them.

Dan Campbell had the perfect response to Chris Christie saying he has no class.
The former New Jersey Governor decided to go after Campbell after the Lions blasted the Cowboys to the tune of 47-9. The problem? Apparently, running up the score is classless!
“That’s Dan Campbell. He’s got no class. Never has. It’s fine. It’s fine. Look, Dan Campbell, that’s the way he is, and what goes around comes around,” Christie said following the blowout win.
Pretty strange beef for Christie to spark, but Campbell isn’t sweating it.

Collin Morikawa celebrates his win at the 2023 ZOZO Championship in Japan. | Photo by Lintao Zhang/Getty Images
Collin Morikawa has done everything but won in 2024. He has a great chance to change that at this week’s ZOZO Championship.
At this point a year ago, Collin Morikawa arrived in Japan feeling rather gloomy. He had not won since his triumph at Royal St. George’s in 2021, where he became the Champion Golfer of the Year that summer. But in the eight majors between then and last year’s ZOZO Championship, he still managed to post three top 10s.

Matthew McConaughey wasn’t impressed by Texas fans trashing the field against Georgia.
Texas students rained trash down on the field after a horrific pass interference call negated a much-needed interception against the Bulldogs.
Bottles rained down from the student section, and the game had to be temporarily paused in order to clean everything up. To make the situation even weirder, the refs decided to pick up the flag and let Texas keep the ball.
It was one of the strangest situations we’ve seen unfold in college football in a long time.

Alabama offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan made a very strange comment when reacting to a now-viral moment from the Tennessee game.
The Alabama Crimson Tide lost on the road to the Volunteers this past weekend, and fans are in an open state of revolt after a 5-2 start.
It’s not just that the Crimson Tide have lost to Vanderbilt and Tennessee. It’s the fact the team appears incredibly undisciplined.
There are bonehead penalties and what appears to be a lack of effort and attention.

On Monday night, the Los Angeles Chargers felt ‘robbed’ by a late unnecessary roughness penalty against the Arizona Cardinals, which ultimately cost them more than 15 yards.
Arizona’s 17-15 win against the Bolts came down to a go-ahead, 32-yard field goal by Chad Ryland as time expired. Before the game-winning boot, the Chargers were called for an ‘egregious’ unnecessary roughness penalty, which turned a potential Cardinals third-and-long into a fresh set of downs, and kept the drive running for the Cardinals to snatch the win.
