Exclusive | John Arne Riise: ‘Hugo Ekitike has been amazing – maybe player of the season for Liverpool.’

Ahead of Liverpool FC’s final match of the season, former Reds star John Arne Riise sat down with Get French Football News to review the season of Liverpool’s French internationals Hugo Ekitike and Ibrahima Konaté.

What are your thoughts on Hugo Ekitiké’s first season at Liverpool?

I’ve got to be honest – when Liverpool signed him I didn’t know much about him but I think he has been amazing for Liverpool. Amazing.

Young midfielder set for Bayern return as Köln loan ends
Felipe Chávez is set to head back to Bayern Munich as his loan stint at 1. FC Köln comes to an end.
According to Sky Germany, Köln have decided not to activate their purchase option to make the 19-year-old midfielder’s move permanent.
Chávez joined Köln on loan during the winter transfer window and struggled for game time, featuring for just 96 Bundesliga minutes across seven appearances.
The Peru international now returns to Bayern with one year remaining on his current contract.

Greece’s Kristian Gkolomeev was the only athlete to beat a world record at the controversial Enhanced Games in Las Vegas.
The 32-year-old clocked 20.81 seconds in the men’s 50m freestyle, eclipsing Australian Cameron McEvoy’s 20.88 which he set in March, but Gkolomeev’s time will not be recognised by official authorities.

Milan directors expected to be fired, Allegri on the brink
Milan have missed out on Champions League qualification and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, club owner Gerry Cardinale will sack all the directors, including Giorgio Furlani and Igli Tare, with coach Massimiliano Allegri also on the brink.
Milan are expected to make big changes after failing to qualify for the Champions League.

We asked for your views after Brentford narrowly missed out on European qualification following a draw at Liverpool on the final day of the season.
Here are some of your comments:
Linda: I was at the game and it was a hard-fought point. I’m pleased that we haven’t qualified for Europe as we don’t have the depth in the squad. League status is more important and it is definitely something to aim for next season.
Sanjay: I don’t think the Bees should be too disheartened.

We asked for your views on Aston Villa’s season now that the 2025-26 campaign has come to a close.
Here are some of your comments:
Matt: Fantastic season considering the appalling start we had. Unbelievable achievement with hopefully our first of many trophies. Next task? Keep the vultures away that will come circling for our manager and amazing team. Up the Villa.
Ron: Wonderful season, after it started so badly with no goals or wins in first five games. Who knows what would have happened if we had a good start. Nice one, Unai, thank you. UTV.

Rangers reportedly can sign Lawrence Shankland for free from Heart of Midlothian, but Celtic’s talks about a permanent move for Marcelo Saracchi from Boca Juniors are said to have stalled.
Lawrence Shankland is flying back to Glasgow from holiday to have a medical and complete a transfer to Rangers, who have offered him a two-year contract – with an option of a third – and will join the Ibrox club for free because of a clause in his Hearts contract.

Over 130 years ago, basketball was invented at the YMCA as a way to bring people together through exercise, teamwork and competition.
For the first time since 2019, the YMCA of Greater Rochester will host the Gus Macker Tournament, a nationwide 3-on-3 street basketball tournament.
Registration for teams of four is $200. Proceeds from Rochester’s tournament will go to YMCAs across the greater Rochester area to help support their efforts and serviced provided to the community.
Registration closes on June 8.

NEW DELHI: Australian cricketer Travis Head and his wife Jessica have once again faced online abuse from some Indian cricket fans after a heated IPL 2026 moment involving Virat Kohli went viral.
Jessica said hateful comments and private messages were sent not only to them but also to their friends and family members after the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
“It feels like a repeat of the abuse that happened after the World Cup,” she told Australian media outlet The Advertiser.
