MIAMI (AP) — Javier Sanoja had three hits, Sandy Alcantara allowed one run over seven innings and the Miami Marlins opened the season with a 2-1 win over the Colorado Rockies on Friday night.
Alcantara (1-0) made his franchise-leading sixth start on opening day and struck out five, allowed four hits and walked two. It was a promising beginning to the season for the 2022 NL Cy Young award winner after a rollercoaster 2025 during which he went 11-13 with a 5.36 ERA while facing trade rumors.
Sanoja went 3-for-3 with a run-scoring single in the second.

Tiger Woods was taken into custody after a rollover crash on Jupiter Island, Florida, Friday, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
At a press conference, Sheriff John Budensiek said the five-time Masters winner was traveling at “a high rate of speed” when his vehicle collided with another car, causing it to roll over onto the driver’s side. 
Budensiek added that Woods appeared to have exited the vehicle by “crawling” out of the passenger side.

The Los Angeles Angels have signed utility player Chris Taylor to a minor-league deal, according to the team.
Additionally, the Angels are keeping Hunter Strickland on a similar deal, per team reporter Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register.
Taylor is known for his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he produced multiple clutch hits and was a valuable player who added flexibility to the lineup.
He has helped the Dodgers win two World Series titles and take home the NLCS MVP award in 2017.

President Donald Trump addressed the daytime rollover crash involving Tiger Woods on Friday that resulted in the 15-time major winner being arrested on a DUI charge after authorities suspected he was driving impaired. 
Speaking to reporters after arriving in Miami, the president spoke briefly about Woods. He said he was only aware of the accident at the time he made his remarks. 
“I feel so badly. He’s got some difficulty,” Trump said. “There was an accident, and that’s all I know.
