Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gill became a national hero Monday, June 29, making a pair of saves in a penalty shootout after making six stops in the previous 120 minutes as the Albirroja shocked Germany and moved into the World Cup round of 16
Gill saved Kai Havertz’s kick, Germany’s first effort, and dove to his left to stop Nick Woltemade on Germany’s fourth attempt. As the shootout went into sudden death, Gill watched as Jonathan Tah’s kick went over his bar and his teammates came through with the win.
