Beginning in August, the Caller-Times recognized some of the top high school performances from across the Coastal Bend through the Apple Dental Center Athlete of the Week program.
Now, readers will have a chance to help select the 2026 Caller-Times Apple Dental Center Fan Favorite High School Softball Player of the Year.
The ballot features players from schools across the Coastal Bend who helped lead their teams to successful seasons, district championships and deep playoff runs during the 2026 season.
Voting will remain open until 2 p.m.

The college baseball season has concluded as Oklahoma defeated North Carolina to win the program’s third national championship.

Arthur Fery continued his impressive grass-court form with a dramatic comeback victory over Argentina’s Roman Andres Burruchaga in the first round of the Lexus Eastbourne Open.
The 23-year-old Londoner, who achieved a career-high ranking of 118 after his strong run to the Queen’s Club quarter-finals last week, appeared to be heading for defeat.
Burruchaga, whose father famously scored the winning goal in the 1986 World Cup final, had turned the contest around to lead 5-3 in the deciding set.

U.S. Olympic skiing champion Bode Miller was arrested on misdemeanor drug charges on June 6, according to court records obtained by TMZ.
Per the report, Miller is facing facing two misdemeanor drug charges for the arrest in Idaho. The 48-year-old is charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, according to court records cited in the report.
Per the report, Miller was released after posting a $5,000 bond and has pleaded not guilty. He’s scheduled for a July 29 pretrial hearing to face the charges, according to the report.

​The Buffalo Sabres are coming off their best season in 14 years, and fans expect them to be very active in the offseason. Their first test of the summer will come next weekend at the NHL draft.
​The Sabres currently hold the 20th overall pick afteracquiring it from the San Jose Sharks for Michael Kesselring and the 27th overall pick. It would be in the best interest of the team to trade out of the first round in exchange for a veteran player who can be an immediate help.

The Bucks are trading Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to the Heat for Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks (including No. 13 in Tuesday’s draft), one pick swap and one second-rounder, per sources.
