The streets of Paraguay erupted Monday as people rejoiced in beating powerhouse Germany in the World Cup and the president declared a national holiday.
Thousands of people gathered in downtown Asuncion to savor the moment — only the second time Paraguay has won a World Cup game in the knockout stage.
It did so by beating the Germans on penalties in a nail-biting finish.
Cars honking their horns snaked through the capital of the small South American country that does not usually get a lot of attention for anything.

Astoria Parks and Recreation is once again hosting a Clatsop Clash summertime pickleball tournament, slated to return on Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12 at Fred Lindstrom Park in Astoria. The tournament is divided by age groups — the adults will play on Saturday at $50 per team and the youth tournament is on Sunday and costs $15 per team. The tournament is open to everyone.
Parks and Recreation Director Jonah Dart-McLean said during an interview with The Astorian that 19 players participated in the tournament over Fourth of July weekend last year. This year may draw more.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Colson Montgomery hit a go-ahead double in the eighth inning, Jacob Gonzalez drove in three runs and the Chicago White Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles 8-2 on Monday night in the opener of their series.
With the game tied at 2, Sam Antonacci was hit by a pitch before Montgomery doubled him home. Randal Grichuk followed with a single to center field that scored Montgomery and gave the White Sox a 4-2 lead.
Kyle Teel and Antonacci capped the scoring by reaching home on an error by Orioles third baseman Blaze Alexander in the ninth.
