The Chicago Cubs (50-56) opted to become ‘buyers’ at the MLB trade deadline and pulled off a solid upgrade on Sunday, acquiring Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Isaac Paredes.
To acquire Paredes, the Cubs had to sever ties with third baseman Christopher Morel, a fan-favorite player riding a season-long slump.
Despite his shortcomings this year, following a strong 2023 campaign when he led the club in home runs (26), Morel was admired in and out of the dugout for being a good teammate, which made the news of his departure difficult, especially for Morel.

New York Giants camp is well underway, and Brian Daboll clearly didn’t skip his off-season training program. The head coach is looking slim and trim — noticeably thinner than he was during the 2023 season.
And in a recent appearance on Up & Adams, Giants GM Joe Schoen spilled the beans on one of Daboll’s secrets to weight loss: Pilates.
“What he fell in love with probably over the last three or four weeks is Pilates,” Schoen told host Kay Adams. “He’s doing Pilates. The first week and a half he was dying.

Steve Kerr benching Celtics star Jayson Tatum could be USA Basketball’s first controversy of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The USA Basketball men’s team handily beat Serbia to open up group play in the 2024 Olympics in Paris on Sunday, but the discussion after the game seemingly isn’t going to be as positive as the team likely hoped.
Because while most of Team USA appeared to be having a blast during Sunday’s 110-84 win, one of the two members of the roster to not see the court for a single second appeared less than thrilled about it.

When Team USA released the roster for the women’s basketball team set to compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics, there was one glaring omission: WNBA rookie Caitlin Clark.
Many people criticized the decision, but Team USA stood by its choice to leave the rookie sensation off the roster in favor of players with more experience. They also said it would be “irresponsible” to put Clark on the team just for increased exposure.

South Korea has won its 10th straight gold in dramatic fashion.
South Korea continues its dominancy over women’s team archery at the Olympic Games.
On Sunday, their squad won the gold medal over China to celebrate its 10th straight victory in the event: ever since women’s team archery was introduced in 1988, South Korea has come away as the winner. No decision was close as this one, though.

During the dog days of Training Camp in the heat of July, players have to find a way to keep it fun. And for Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs, that means staging a fake boxing match in the middle of the field.
Following Saturday’s practice, the two Dallas Cowboys defenders took some shadow punches and slaps at each other to entertain the crowd. Jon Machota of The Athletic caught it on video:
Last year, Parsons — who is now entering his fourth season — started boxing to enhance his game.
