The frenzy period of free agency is long gone, but many notable free agents remain available, including a handful of decorated edge rushers.
A few of them will likely find homes in the coming weeks with postseason contenders or teams that missed on edge rushers during the NFL draft. There are also some quality defensive backs available and even a two-time rushing champion with three Pro Bowl selections.
Here’s a list of the top 10 remaining free agents, with best team fits. Plus, given there are so many quality players available, an extra list at the end of the story.

Depending on which coach you talk to, football really starts here, during offseason training activities. Or, OTAs just test their ability to pray into existence a clean bill of health for their most important players. That’s probably more like it.
Either way, plenty of questions exist about the state of each roster. By design, not every team can be perfect (until Amazon prods owners to create AI-based franchises that trounce every team every week to bring in sentient robot viewership).

We’re getting closer and closer to fantasy football draft season! Over the last few years, managers who’ve put a greater emphasis on grabbing rookies in their drafts have been rewarded with breakout stars and draft bargains the likes of Najee Harris, Kenneth Walker, Ja’Marr Chase and Garrett Wilson. Of course, a big part of that success is picking the right “big names” and avoiding those who fall into the bust category.
Also, the reality of this fantasy situation is that there are far more disappointments than rookies who blow up in the stat sheets.

The AL East is the most competitive division in baseball, and we’re betting the bats will be out tonight in the Bronx for a high-scoring affair.
This is the third game of a three-game series between the Orioles and the Yankees, and so far the series is split 1-1. Both games this week have gone over the projected run total, and I expect more of the same tonight.
Clarke Schmidt gets the start for the Yankees at home. Schmidt has been hit hard this season and has an ERA of 6.00 with an xERA of 4.99.

Ohhh!
New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers is off to a shaky start in New Jersey after admitting to not liking “The Sopranos.”
Now he’s ticking off “The Sopranos” fandom, a wide and outspoken group, for admitting that he never got into the James Gandolfini-led HBO classic.
You’d imagine that a QB with the chill of Aaron Rodgers assumedly would like “The Sopranos” but the 38-year-old was pretty indifferent about the series.

Zach Wilson’s brother Isaac will play his college ball in Salt Lake City for the University of Utah.
Isaac, a four-star QB prospect from Corner Canyon in Draper, Utah, announced Wednesday night that he was committing to play for the Utes and head coach Kyle Whittingham.
Zach Wilson was a dominant player at BYU and his younger brother will now play his college football for the other half of the Holy War rivalry.
That should certainly create some interesting Christmas and Thanksgiving dinner topics.

Pressure started mounting for George Washington University to officially get rid of its Colonials nickname in 2018, and after a half-decade of holding on, the school officially announced its new moniker earlier this week.
George Washington will now go by the name of Revolutionaries, which the woke crowd who forced the name-change in the first place certainly won’t find anything wrong with. GW tabbed NBC anchor Chuck Todd to help reveal the university’s new nickname, which is incredibly on-brand.
The George Washington student body voted out the Colonials nickname in 2019.

Former Chicago Cubs prospect Josefrailin Alcantara is wanted by police in the Dominican Republic after allegedly shooting and killing a man.
Alcantara, who is just 18, is accused of shooting and killing Darwin Díaz Valerio over $2,747.68 on May 18 in Santiago, Dominican Republic, according to the New York Post. The former Cubs prospect is accused of killing him after shooting him in a car.
His cousin Diego Anibal Rodriguez Martinez, who was allegedly in the vehicle during the shooting, was arrested Wednesday by police in the Dominican Republic.

There reportedly are some serious issues behind closed doors at ESPN after a deal was inked to bring in Pat McAfee.
ESPN has thrown a hail Mary pass to try to save the network, and threw the kitchen sink at McAfee to bring his show to the network. It will now air across ESPN platforms and also remain on YouTube for viewers.
It’s a very bold move, and it’s a sign ESPN understands something major has to happen to save the network. However, McAfee’s deal, which is said to pay him alone roughly $10 million annually, has upset some employees at the network amid financial issues and layoffs.

It looks like the Detroit Lions and Calvin Johnson are finally ready to bury the hatchet and move forward.
Johnson and the Lions have been on notoriously bad terms ever since the team made him repay more than $1 million in signing bonus after he retired following the 2015 season.
Generally speaking, teams don’t go after a star player’s bonus money if he decides to hang up his cleats, especially if he’s physically banged up like Johnson was.
The Lions made him repay the money, and things have been sour ever since.
