Major League Baseball imposed a number of rule changes for the 2023 season with the intention of increasing pace of play and promoting more run scoring. And it seemed like, for the most part, it worked.
Game times dropped significantly, pace of play increased, and runs per game jumped from 8.56 to 9.24. If you’d have asked commissioner Rob Manfred prior to the 2023 season, adding three quarters of a run per game would be considered a dramatic success.
Except virtually all of that progress has evaporated through the first two and a half months of the 2024 season.

A scary scene unfolded Friday when a golfer accidentally drilled a camera man in the head during the second round of the Scandinavian Mixed.
Madelene Sagstrom was attempting to get out of the rough on the par-4 18th hole at Sweden’s Vasatorps Golfklubb when she sent her third shot down the left side of the fairway. The one-time LPGA Tour winner yelled, “FORE!” but unfortunately, the ball still smoked a camera man right in the dome before bouncing to the middle of the fairway.
The man collapsed to the ground.

It was only a matter of time.
During last night’s Dodgers – Yankees game, Los Angeles third baseman Kiké Hernández committed an error during the 2nd inning – however, the blame shouldn’t be entirely on him.
Hernandez was the latest victim of the new ‘All Access’ hysteria that sports networks and program directors are demanding these days as a way to ‘bring more engagement to the fans.

Before we talk about baseball, I need to talk about America first.
On Thursday, we celebrated the 80th anniversary of one of the most consequential days in the history of Western Civilization.
During the morning of June 6, 1944, over 130,000 Allied troops landed on five different locations of Normandy Beach in France in the D-Day assault on German forces. Despite enduring heavy casualties, the invasion was successful and began the steady decline of the Nazi powers in Europe (and thus the end of World War II).

Following the 2024 French Open, we turn our attention to the grass swing of the WTA season.
With Wimbledon fast approaching, Aryna Sabalenka, the No. 2 tennis player in the World, will start grass play as the favorite to win her first title at the All England Club, which begins on July 1st and runs through July 14th.
Sabalenka hasn’t advanced past the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, but her potent first serve and ability to dictate quick points has oddsmakers installing her as the favorite early on, with surprising 2023 champion Markéta Vondroušová further down the board at +1600.

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark’s omission from the Team USA basketball roster for the 2024 summer Olympics in Paris left fans outraged and many questioning the reason why she was snubbed.
According to a report from Christine Brennan of USA TODAY, there were concerns within Team USA of how Clark’s millions of fans would “react to what would likely be limited playing time on a stacked roster.

Earlier this week, Josh Jacobs claimed the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers were warned not to wear green during their Week 1 game in Brazil. But the NFL says that’s just not true.
The two teams will face off on Sept. 6 in São Paulo, Brazil — the NFL’s first-ever regular season game in South America. During an appearance on the Green Light podcast with Chris Long, Jacobs said the teams were told they could not wear green because it may not be safe.
“They said, I guess, something to do with the gangs and stuff,” said Jacobs. “They said we not going to Rio.

A new French Open champion will be crowned on Sunday with Alexander Zverev gunning for his first Grand Slam title against two-time Grand Slam champ Carlos Alcaraz.
Alcaraz, the heavy favorite to claim his first title at Roland-Garros, is off a five set thriller against soon-to-be-named No. 1 player in the world Jannik Sinner, while Zverev finally breakthrough after making three consecutive semifinals in the French Open, beating Casper Ruud in four sets.
