Horschel will not repeat his title at the Memorial this year, proving how difficult the game is and how quickly things can change in a year.
Billy Horschel opened his title defense at The Memorial Tournament with a miserable 84, a 12-over round that left him stunned, upset, and lacking confidence.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone was called on the carpet by MLB last week for getting thrown out of games at a ridiculous pace exceeded by only one manager in history, a guy known as “Ol’ Rant and Rave.” So how did the new “Ol’ Rant and Rave” respond?
“No, I’m not going to change,” Boone said.
It was a misguided response to behavior that is hard to fathom in an age of replay review, which essentially removes every safe-out call on the bases from sensible argument.

If you want a sense of how things went for the Nuggets in their first appearance in the NBA Finals on Thursday, look no further than power forward Aaron Gordon’s showing in the first period.
There was the violent spin move to the cup two minutes in, when he briefly lost the ball before recovering it to go up for a layup over All-NBA wing Jimmy Butler. There was the following play, where he sealed the overmatched Gabe Vincent just inside the restricted area, catching a beautiful feed from Nikola Jokić before throwing down a forceful, two-hand jam.

While it’s still up for debate whether human beings or robots are better at calling balls and strikes, there’s one thing a computer can definitely do better than a flesh-and-blood umpire: count to three.
In the fourth inning of Thursday’s game between the Guardians and Twins, Cleveland starter Tanner Bibee got Minnesota infielder Royce Lewis to foul off two of the first three pitches he threw him. Bibee’s fourth pitch was a fastball that appeared to miss low, but home plate umpire Ryan Additon called it a strike. Except, oddly, Additon didn’t punch out Lewis.

The Soccer Tournament, a seven-a-side million dollar event, got underway on Thursday and we’ve already got a story of racist allegations and a team withdrawing from the tournament.
West Ham walked off the field during its match against Dallas United and the match was suspended. According to the Daily Mail, a player on Dallas’ side allegedly said the n-word to West Ham’s Frank Nouble. The allegation was made by Anton Ferdinand, a former West Ham player who is representing his former club in the tournament.

Jackson Stearns is frustrated. Not by the Nuggets. A lifelong fan, the 35-year-old from the Platt Park neighborhood in Denver has reveled in the team’s march to the NBA Finals. But over the past four years, as Nikola Jokić has blossomed into a two-time MVP and the Nuggets have emerged as a perennial contender, a bitter fight between the team and a leading broadcasting distributor has made it increasingly difficult for fans like Stearns to watch them.
