Just last week, the NFL announced it is going to exclusively stream a Wild Card game this season. And I wrote at the time: “Streaming isn’t going anywhere. It’s clearly the future of broadcasting. However, the future may be coming a bit too quickly.” That sets the backdrop for the New York Yankees’ week.
On Sunday, the Yankees faced the Cincinnati Reds. The game started at an unusual time: 11:35 a.m. Eastern time. Why? Because NBC’s streaming service, Peacock, had exclusive rights to the game and wanted it to start in an exclusive window.
On Monday, the Yankees are off.

Michigan State commit Coen Carr has yet to set foot on a college basketball court, but he might already be the best dunker in college basketball. To say “might” as a qualifier may not be fair to what the Greenville, South Carolina-native continues to do on a weekly basis.
At 6-foot-7, 200 pounds, Coen Carr is a four-star prospect in the Class of 2023. He is considered a top-50 recruit and one of the top-10 forwards in the country.

An all-2000s NBA player decided to officially retire.
In a heartfelt goodbye video, longtime NBA forward Carmelo Anthony — an elite scorer and perennial All-Star — announced his retirement from the NBA after 19 seasons.

Now, it may be a head-scratching name since most of us assumed Anthony was already retired, now a year removed from NBA basketball.
Melo made it official Monday. And the NBA said goodbye to an unfailingly impressive player.

Newly retired forward Carmelo Anthony’s career was closely intertwined with that of Lakers forward LeBron James.
The two were both picked in the iconic 2003 draft: James first by the Cavaliers and Anthony third by the Nuggets. They nearly met in the 2009 NBA Finals, though both players’ teams succumbed in the conference finals. Their friendship has been well-documented, and they were teammates in Los Angeles during Anthony’s final season.
Appropriately, James heaped praise upon Anthony as he announced his exit from basketball Monday morning.

Suspended Athletics broadcaster Glen Kuiper was fired by NBC Sports California on Monday in the aftermath of his use of a racial slur on air earlier this month, the network announced.
Kuiper, 60, was indefinitely suspended a day after the May 5 incident during Oakland’s game against the Royals. During a pregame segment before the A’s matchup in Kansas City, Kuiper used a racial slur while discussing a visit to K.C.’s Negro Leagues Baseball Museum with broadcast partner and former A’s pitcher Dallas Braden.

The NFL sent a message loud and clear following this year’s NFL Draft: we want massive crowds and a festival-like atmosphere for the event. The days of holding the Draft in Radio City Music Hall in New York City are gone. As, likely, are indoor drafts in general.
The biggest problem is that the players don’t seem overly interested in these drafts. Attending the NFL Draft, particularly under the lights of New York City, was a dream for most young football players.

The Raptors have spoken with former Nets head coach Steve Nash about their vacant head coaching position, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Monday.
Nash coached in Brooklyn for over two years, leading the Nets to a 94–67 record and two playoff appearances. In his first year, Brooklyn was a No. 2 seed and made it to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, losing to the eventual champion Bucks.
Brooklyn was a No. 7 seed last year, and despite winning the play-in game, the team was swept by the Celtics in the first round.

Twenty-year Oakland A’s play-by-play announcer Glen Kuiper has been terminated after speaking a slur during a pregame A’s segment on May 5.
Announced Monday, NBC Sports confirmed Kuiper’s firing with a statement: “Following an internal review, the decision has been made for NBC Sports California to end its relationship with Glen Kuiper, effective immediately,” the statement read. “We thank Glen for his dedication to Bay Area baseball over the years.
