Excitement abounds in the Carolinas.
By any metric, the Panthers‘ acquisition of the No. 1 pick in next month’s NFL draft from the Bears Friday afternoon scans as a franchise turning point. It’s only the second time Carolina has had the first overall selection, after the franchise’s 2011 pick of quarterback Cam Newton.

Carolina reportedly wants to keep its options open.
After the Bears traded the first overall pick to the Panthers on Friday, Carolina now has control of the top of the draft. While the team is expected to take a quarterback with that first pick, the Panthers are trying to keep their options open, which could include an unorthodox decision.
According to reports by ESPN’s David Newton and The Athletic‘s Joe Person, Carolina could actually trade back down in the draft if they do not love one option above the rest at No. 1.

You know what’s a bad idea? Arguing balls and strikes down four in the ninth inning with two outs. Unfortunately, one college baseball batter learned that the hard way Friday night.
Sometimes, the kiddos have to walk before they can run.
And while this may well be the worst Strike 3 call I’ve ever seen in the history of baseball, I can’t say this cat didn’t have it coming.

If you’re a betting person, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has an early lock for you.
Speaking at a business luncheon Thursday, Abbott predicted the outcome of the September 2023 football game between the Texas Longhorns and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
If you recall, last year’s matchup was a doozy. A heavily favored, No. 1-ranked Alabama team narrowly escaped the Longhorns, 20-19, at DKR Texas Memorial Stadium.
But it was Alabama quarterback Bryce Young who made the difference in the game, Abbott said. And that’s not going to happen this year.

With Selection Sunday just around the corner, teams make their final push during conference tournament action.
Welcome to Championship Saturday! Thirteen of the remaining automatic bids left to be handed out will be won today, and there’s still lots to sort out in the less than 36 hours until Selection Sunday. While we wait to see who will punch their tickets to the Big Dance today, here’s a look at Sports Illustrated’s latest projected NCAA tournament field, plus notes on Friday’s action and what to look out for on Saturday in the race for the last spots in the dance, the No.

The Dolphins star has expressed Olympic ambitions.
Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill is as fast as it gets on a football field. On Saturday, he’s set to test that straight line speed on the track.
According to FinishTiming, Hill is entered to compete in the men’s 60-meter dash in the 25–29 age group at today’s USA Track and Field Masters Indoor Championships in Louisville. The race is scheduled to take place at 1:12 p.m. ET, per NBC Sports.
Hill has not officially announced his return to the track for the event.

New Orleans defeated Mississippi Valley State in shocking fashion Friday night.
Umpiring is often a thankless, difficult job. Sometimes, however, a call goes so awry the baseball world can’t help but stop and stare.
Take what happened Friday night in New Orleans. With two outs in the top of the ninth, New Orleans led Mississippi Valley State 7–3. Left fielder Davon Mims represented the Delta Devils’ last hope.
On a 1–1 count, Mims took a low called strike he clearly didn’t appreciate. That call, however, paled in comparison to the next one.
