Katherine Legge is the only woman in this year’s Indianapolis 500 field, and just the 10th to ever qualify for the Greatest Spectacle in Racing.
Saturday was the first day of qualifying for the Indy 500. All 34 drivers vying to make the 33-car field had around six hours to lay down 4 laps as fast as they possibly can. The top 12 will compete for pole on Sunday, while the bottom 4 will compete for the three places on the back row of the grid, with one of them going home.
So, the only positions on the grid set in stone Saturday afternoon were P13 through P30.

The Toronto Blue Jays made an easily avoidable mistake that forced them to pull starting pitcher Alek Manoah much sooner than they would have liked.
There were quite a few new rules introduced at the start of the 2023 MLB season. Yeah, it’s May, but some of the rules are still sinking for some teams, and in this case, managers.
The Blue Jays were hosting Baltimore Orioles and in the sixth inning, Blue Jays pitching coach Pete Walker visited Manoah after he gave up a single with one out.

Brewers outfielder Jesse Winker was ejected from Saturday’s tilt against the Rays after arguing a pitch clock violation issued to him from home plate umpire Adam Hamari.
Winker was given an automatic strike during his at-bat against Ryan Thompson in the eighth inning after Hamari deemed that he’d taken too long to get into the batter’s box.
The bizarre part, however, was that Thompson had yet to even step on the mound, and Milwaukee’s bat boy could be seen scurrying out of frame of the camera just moments before the violation was issued.

Michigan Athletics released a statement Saturday in which it announced that assistant director of football recruiting Glenn “Shemy” Schembechler resigned from his role just days after his hire was announced by the program.
“Effective this afternoon, Shemy Schembechler has resigned his position with Michigan Football. We are aware of some comments and likes on social media that have caused concern and pain for individuals in our community.

Oregon and second-year coach Dan Lanning landed one of the top quarterback recruits in the class of 2024 on Saturday by receiving a commitment from touted prospect Michael Van Buren.
Van Buren, a rising senior at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Md., chose to play for Oregon and Lanning over finalists Penn State and Maryland, according to ESPN. The 6’0’’, 190-pound QB’s announcement comes less than a week after he bumped his commitment date up from July 8 to May 20 following a visit to Oregon in April.

The son of legendary Michigan coach Bo Schembechler has resigned from his role at Michigan, just three days since accepting the job. After taking a job on Jim Harbaugh’s staff as assistant director of football recruiting, Shemy Schembechler is now out of a job.
Jim Harbaugh and athletic director Warde Manuel released a joint statement Saturday evening confirming the news.
“Effective this afternoon, Shemy Schembechler has resigned his position with Michigan Football,” the statement read, the statement noted.
