Here are our five leading candidates for the honor.
We’re already reaching the midpoint of conference play in men’s college basketball as the calendar flips to February, which means awards season is just around the corner. Purdue’s Zach Edey appears destined to win National Player of the Year honors, but the race for National Coach of the Year is wide open. Here’s a look at the five top candidates for this year’s award, with a first-year coach at the head of the list.

During a day of golf, Aaron Rodgers told onlookers that he was not considering a trade to the San Francisco 49ers, despite the speculation. The comment sparks Craig Carton and James Jones to decide which team would be the best fit for Rodgers should he decide to leave the Green Bay Packers. The same conversations are being had about Derek Carr, and while Craig is still convinced the former Las Vegas Raiders QB will end up with the New York Jets, James throws some doubt on that theory.

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Indiana Pacers 112-111 last night. LeBron scored 26 points and is now 63 points away from passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the all-time scoring list. After the game, LeBron talked about the magnitude of the record is, saying quote: ‘I think it’s one of the greatest records in sports in general. I think it’s up there with the home run record in baseball. It’s just one of those records you just don’t ever see or think it’ll be broken.

Jalen Hurts was asked what his best performance in the season was, and the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback said it has yet to come, hinting we should look for it in Super Bowl LVII. Craig Carton is a little skeptical, especially with Hurts going into the Super Bowl with the least passing yards throw in playoffs. James Jones joins Craig to decide how well he thinks Hurts will perform against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Neither rival is having the season it hoped for as they play for the first time in the post–Coach K era.
Wet piles of cardboard were being heaved into dumpsters at Krzyzewskiville on Thursday afternoon, remnants of the soggy sleepover by Duke students camping out to get in Cameron Indoor Stadium on Saturday for the annual home hatefest with North Carolina. The tents have all been relocated to the concourse of the football stadium now, where the vigil continues amid cold temperatures, leaden skies and spitting rain. It’s crappy camping weather.

Wednesday was National Girls and Women in Sports Day and while St. John’s University acknowledged its women’s sports programs and student-athletes, it forgot about the cheerleaders and dance team on campus.
St. John’s athletics Instagram account shared a post recognizing its women’s sports teams on Wednesday but did not mention the cheer and dance teams. Like most other universities, cheerleading and dance are not listed among sports on St. John’s official sports website.

Patrick Mahomes doesn’t want to hear any nonsense about him being a flopper.
Mahomes was hit out of bounds in the closing moment against the Bengals by Joseph Ossai, and the penalty allowed the Chiefs to kick a game-winning field goal.
Some people apparently think he faked getting lit up from behind, and he’s now set the record straight.

Mahomes gives it his all for the first down!
