Scottie Scheffler will be there come Sunday afternoon, as he is playing too well from tee-to-green not to contend.
Raise your hand if you have heard this before: Scottie Scheffler nearly led the field in strokes gained approaching the green but ranked towards the bottom in putting during round one of The Open Championship.
The World No. 1 could not buy a bucket, scraping edges and lipping out more than one could count.

The weather wreaked havoc on Royal Troon during the first round, and meteorologists predict more of the same for day two.
What is the biggest talking point after Thursday’s first round at The Open Championship? The Scottish summer weather.
A strong southerly wind fooled the players all day, wreaking havoc on Royal Troon. Temperatures in the low 60s and an annoying, intermittent drizzle did not help, either.
The captain of Japan’s Olympic women’s gymnastics team is set to be sent home from Europe after allegations she was caught smoking. DALLAS – “SEC Storied,” the Southeastern Conference’s sports documentary that debuted in 2011, may have outdone itself.
“Saturday Night Lights,” the history of SEC football at night, premieres Thursday night on the SEC Network at 8 p.m., and it is must-see TV. Particularly with the start of the SEC season under its new contract with ESPN/ABC coming soon on Thursday, Aug. 29, with Arkansas-Pine Bluff playing at Arkansas in Little Rock (7:30 p.m., ESPNU) and Clemson vs. Georgia in Atlanta on Saturday Aug. 31 (Noon, ABC).
DALLAS — If there’s one thing we can agree on in this country, it’s that sports are something that can bring us together, no matter which side of the political aisle you’re on. For Auburn coach Hugh Freeze, there has been one thing missing in the wake of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump: love.
As we gathered in Texas this week for SEC Media Days, it’s hard not to glance at a television or look at social media and see the problems that are occurring on both sides.

Brooks Koepka was among the few to post an under-par round at The Open, as he remained blunt about his performance.
Brooks Koepka may be one of 17 players under par at The Open Championship, but he knows the challenge is far from over at Royal Troon. He is one of the lucky ones, as many golfers struggled in these conditions.
Kopeka signed for a 1-under 70 with five birdies and four bogeys on Thursday. He trails leader Daniel Brown by five after the Englishman shot a 6-under 65.
“I didn’t think I hit it very good,” Koepka said.

Surprise, surprise. Xander Schauffele is on the front page of a major championship leaderboard.
The 2024 PGA Championship winner carded a 2-under 69 on Thursday, a round that featured three birdies and only one bogey.

Speaking at the Hungarian Grand Prix Oscar Piastri outlined how McLaren still has lessons to learn at the front of the F1 grid
McLaren enjoyed a solid afternoon at the British Grand Prix, as a third-place finish from Lando Norris and a fourth-place finish from Oscar Piastri saw the Woking-based outfit bank 27 points, the most of any team in the field.
However, had a few strategic calls been handled differently, the team could have left Silverstone with a double-podium, if not a lockout of the front row.

Tiger Woods made a mess of his opening round at Royal Troon, as he looks well on his way to missing another cut at a major.
Tiger Woods had it going early, then the train completely fell off the tracks during the first round of The Open.
He made two easy pars to start. Then, he holed a 36-footer for birdie from off the third green to get to 1-under for the championship. But a three-putt bogey followed at the par-5 4th, and an ugly double-bogey at the par-3 5th came after that.
