How the Eagles managed to Moneyball their way to the Super Bowl despite still paying Alshon Jeffery
In many ways, Super Bowl LVII will be painted as a David vs. Goliath matchup. At quarterback, we have former and potentially current MVP Patrick Mahomes going to his third Super Bowl and facing Jalen Hurts, who is only in his third season. At head coach, Andy Reid is going to his fourth Super Bowl over 24 years in the NFL against Nick Sirianni, only in his second season of being in charge of the Eagles.

Cameras caught the fellow Lakers star looking rather subdued after his teammate passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
Lakers star Anthony Davis shot down any further talk of his subdued reaction to the record-breaking moment for teammate LeBron James on Tuesday night, saying that his less-than-enthusiastic demeanor was the result of how the game was playing out.
This should be a great anthem.
Super Bowl 57 is almost here and once again the NFL has brought in a big name to start things off with the national anthem.
So who’s singing it this year? I’m glad you asked. Country star Chris Stapleton will do the honors before Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs take on Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles in Arizona.
Stapleton, of course, is the singer who brought us the legendary song “Tennessee Whiskey.” His voice is so darn good and this anthem should be pretty awesome.
It’s been a while since the Bruins have won a game in Eugene, so this is a big game for the Pac-12 leaders.
The first week of men’s college basketball moneyline picks were, indeed, money: 4-0, thanks to Indiana, Saint Mary’s, Miami and Tennessee. Let’s see if we can run that back again in week two. On to the picks:

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson didn’t deny having serious interest in Aaron Rodgers.
Speculation is swirling about Aaron Rodgers’ future, and there’s serious questions about whether or not his retirement is imminent. He’s doing a darkness retreat to get his head straight, and in the meantime, you can count on much more chatter about what he’ll do.
If he leaves the Packers, which is certainly possible, the Jets are viewed as a very sexy landing spot.
We asked three of our writers which deal they thought was the best of this winter’s free agency.
Next week marks the unofficial start of baseball season. The Super Bowl will have concluded, and pitchers and catchers will have reported to their spring training sites, with position players following a few days later.
Before we get there, though, let’s take a look back at three of the most impactful signings of this offseason.

Literally and figuratively, Aaron Judge is the biggest signing of the offseason.
Deion Sanders isn’t capable of turning off the recruiting switch.
The former NFL star and current head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes was in attendance Thursday night at the NFL Honors down in Arizona. He used his time on stage to draw a little attention to his program in Boulder, and jokingly threw out a quick recruiting pitch.
“I got the Bosas, the Watts, Jerry [Jones] said I could borrow The Star, Jimmy [Johnson] say he gonna help me out. I need all your cousins, your mama and then, your nephews, send them right to Colorado.
This Sunday’s Super Bowl isn’t just the biggest stage in the game for the Kansas City Chiefs, it’s also a chance for protesters who want the franchise to change its name a chance in the spotlight as well.
Rhonda LeValdo, the founder of the Kansas City-based Indigenous activist group Not In Our Honor, held a press conference on Thursday explaining that she’ll be organizing a protest outside of State Farm Stadium, host of the Super Bowl, on Sunday.
LeValdo is set to be joined by tribes in Arizona who also oppose the mascot and name in Glendale.
BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana State Capitol is fittingly just three miles from LSU.
And the politics have been seeping down Nicholson Drive to Tiger Stadium like a busted sewer pipe ever since Democrat Huey Long was basically running the LSU football team as governor from 1928-32. He kept his hand in as a United States senator, too, until his assassination in the Capitol in September of 1935.
Democrat governor John McKeithen (1964-72) had his hands in recruiting and remained heavily involved in football on the Board of Supervisors in the 1980s.
Armando Salguero is a Pro Football Hall of Fame selector who presented new Hall of Famer Zach Thomas at the latest selector committee meeting. This was his presentation:
You’ve selected Zach Thomas to be among the final 10 each of the last three years. So it stands to reason you think he’s been on the doorstep of getting into Canton for some time now.
When I was considering what to say to convince you to take that next step and let Zach in the Pro Football Hall of Fame I came to this:
Simply share what Hall of Famers or likely Hall of Famers are imploring you to do.
