It wasn’t possible for Matt Eberflus to survive a six-game losing skid, including three consecutive disastrous last-minute meltdowns, and the embarrassment of his coaching malpractice on Thanksgiving Day. So it was a matter of when, not if he’d be fired.
And by noon on Friday we got the answer to when.
Now.
Friday afternoon turned into a literal Black Friday for Eberflus when he met with club president and CEO Kevin Warren and general manager Ryan Poles and was fired.
It marks the first time the Chicago Bears, founded in 1920, have ever fired a head coach in-season.

For the first time since 2011, Texas and Texas A&M will take the field on Saturday night to reprise a rivalry that is one of the cornerstones of college football. It’s only fitting that this game will decide who plays in the SEC championship next weekend.
The last time the Lone Star Showdown took place was in 2011, just before the Aggies set sail for the SEC, leaving the Big 12 behind for what it imagined were greener pastures.

A day before Texas A&M revives its rivalry with Texas, the Aggies got word that four-star 2026 Michigan quarterback pledge Brady Hart has flipped his commitment to A&M and plans to reclassify into the 2025 cycle.

Over the last decade since Las Vegas has become a bonafide sports town, there is no better place to have a big win or clinch a major championship than Sin City.
Just ask the 2018 Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals, some of whom may or may not still have a slight buzz from a celebration for the ages.

NFL football is back on Black Friday this season
NFL football is back on Black Friday this season.
After the league debuted the first Black Friday game a season ago — between the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins on Amazon Prime — the NFL is dipping into those post-Thanksgiving waters again, with a game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Las Vegas Raiders.
That debut was viewed as a success for both the streaming service, and the league. While there were estimates that the game could see as many as 12.

Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham reportedly was in a very giving mood this holiday season.
The Sun Devils are 9-2 and firmly in the College Football Playoff hunt with a Saturday showdown with in-state rival Arizona.
It’s the program’s best season since 2014, and there are definitely still more than a couple opportunities to add more wins.
Things are definitely rolling in Tempe, and Dillingham made sure to share the love.
Dillingham earned a $200,000 bonus for winning nine games this season, and that comes on top of his nearly $4 million annual salary to coach the Sun Devils.
