Charlie Woods, only 15-years-old, did not have his best stuff in the first stage of U.S. Open qualifying.
Perhaps nothing in golf is more difficult than trying to qualify for the U.S. Open.
The United States Golf Association (USGA) accepted over 10,000 entries into this year’s qualifiers, all of which are professional players or amateurs who carry a handicap index of 0.4 or better.

Many golf fans learned that Joel Dahmen is one of the most entertaining players on the PGA Tour thanks to his appearance on the Netflix documentary “Full Swing.” This week, he put that on full-display at the Zurich Classic by trying to match his partner Keith Mitchell’s signature look.
Mitchell is one of the few players on the PGA Tour that sports a visor instead of a hat when he plays golf. Personally, I am not a fan of dudes wearing visors. I especially hate it when football coaches do it, but golfers get slightly more grace. SLIGHTLY more.

Major League Baseball is bringing back one of its most interesting league-wide promotions later this season, but with a significant adjustment to its previous implementation.
Starting in 2017, MLB instituted what it called “Players Weekend,” an attempt to appeal to younger fans. Teams initially wore jerseys that were reminiscent of Little League style uniforms; with multi-colored tops. Most interestingly though, the league also allowed players to customize the name on the back of their jersey.
Some players had, well, a lot of fun with it.

Phillies fans are going to be begging Bryce Harper and his wife to continue pumping out kids in the middle of the Major League Baseball season because when they do good things happen.
Harper returned to the lineup from paternity leave after the birth of his third child and second daughter on Thursday with the Phillies in Cincinnati for the third game of a four-game series.
Harper grounded out in his first at-bat of the afternoon, and when he came up again in the top of the third inning a couple of Reds fans gave him the ol’ “Overrated”.
Mistake.

The OWGR offered points to the Clutch Pro Tour, despite some obvious discrepancies to supposed criteria.
The Official World Golf Ranking posted an announcement Thursday about the Clutch Pro Tour and their approval to receive points.
Despite having a similar format to LIV Golf, the OWGR decided after a 17-month application process that this United Kingdom Tour meets the long-standing eligibility and format criteria for earning points.

Jayden Daniels has a litany of awards to his name, including college football’s most coveted award, the Heisman.
With QB Caleb Williams all but officially a member of the Chicago Bears, the 2024 NFL draft starts with the Washington Commanders and the second overall pick. Washington has turned the page to a new era with a new owner, front office and head coach, but the franchise’s future could depend on getting their first-round pick right.

The downside of hosting the NFL Draft in Detroit is that … the NFL Draft is held in Detroit. The positive side is that, with not much else to do, people are showing up in massive numbers to view the event in person.
After holding the Draft in New York City for many years, the NFL decided to spread the love and allow cities to vie for hosting duties similarly to the Super Bowl. The difference between the Draft and the Super Bowl is that many more cities are in play because weather is not as big of a factor.
Take, for example, the league holding the NFL Draft in Cleveland, Ohio in 2021.

When Lionel Messi was out, Luis Suarez stepped up to produce goals at a rate worth the price of admission.
Earlier this month, a packed crowd of 19,365 entered Audi Field to see DC United take on Inter Miami, and for many in the crowd, there was one person that caused them to purchase their tickets.
Lionel Messi has garnered massive interest and very high ticket prices wherever Miami plays. However, that one person who most came to see wasn’t there.

The man who shot New Orleans Saints All-Pro defensive end Will Smith in the back seven times and killed him on April 9, 2016, in the Garden District of New Orleans after a car accident was sentenced to 25 years for manslaughter on Thursday in New Orleans.
Smith, who retired from the NFL in 2014, had rear ended Cardell Hayes, and the two argued along with Smith’s wife Racquel. Hayes alleged that Smith told him he was going back to his car to get his gun, so his attorneys argued that he fired eight times in self-defense.

Frankie Capan III, a 24-year-old who played collegiately at Florida Gulf Coast, set a new course record on the Korn Ferry Tour.
Move over, Scottie Scheffler. Frankie Capan III has taken one of your records.
On Thursday, at the Veritex Bank Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour, Capan III recorded the second-lowest score in tour history with a 13-under 58.
His 58 set a new course record at Texas Rangers Golf Club in Arlington, Texas, which Scheffler previously held.
