Scottie Scheffler cruised to a five-shot victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last week, giving him his first win in 363 days. That close to a year-long drought without a win is mind-numbing given that Scheffler has been the best ball striker on planet Earth for more than two years now, but it was his poor putting numbers keeping him out of the winner’s circle. Those putting woes went out the window at Bay Hill last week, and Rory McIlroy may have played a pivotal role on Scheffler finally finding form on the greens.

Could the Mountain West get five — or more — teams into the Big Dance?
The Mountain West has seen four teams invited to the Men’s NCAA Tournament each of the past two years.
Can the conference push that number to four — or more — over the next week?
As the tournament gets underway a pair of teams, Utah State and Nevada, find themselves ranked in the AP Top 25. Utah State enters the Mountain West tournament as the top seed, thanks to their 14-4 record in the conference.

Two-time MVP Shohei Ohtani will make his official Los Angeles Dodgers debut overseas, when his new team takes on the San Diego Padres in a two-game series in Seoul on March 20 and 21. Fans will have to wait a week later to see Ohtani make his Dodger Stadium debut as a member of the home team—and now, they know where to watch.
MLB Network will broadcast the Dodgers’ home opener against the St. Louis Cardinals on March 28 as part of its first “Showcase” telecast of the season.

Philadelphia Eagles lineman Landon Dickerson isn’t a man of expensive tastes, despite being incredibly wealthy.
The former Alabama star turned NFL standout agreed to a giant extension Monday with the Eagles worth up to $87 million over four years.
The offensive lineman will receive a staggering $50 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of $20 million. His signing bonus alone is worth more than the average American earns in five lifetimes.
Yet, it doesn’t sound like he’s interested in splurging.

A number of teams are fighting for tournament bids in the Big Ten this week
This is the final year of the Big Ten men’s basketball tournament as we know it.
Next season the conference will expand to 18 teams, as the Big Ten welcomes new members UCLA, Washington, Oregon, and USC. While all 14 teams currently in the conference participate in the tournament, next season the expanded conference will see the tournament field expand to 15, leaving three schools watching from home along with the rest of us.
But that is a matter for another time.

Did anyone watch any men’s college basketball on Sunday?
According to just-released television ratings for the weekend, not too many, compared to the women’s game.
Caitlin Clark, the NCAA’s all-time scoring leader for men and women, led No. 2 Iowa to a 94-89 win over Nebraska in overtime early Sunday afternoon on CBS in the Big Ten Tournament title game. And it was the most watched basketball game of any kind on the day, with a 1.7 rating. An average of 3.021 million viewers watched it with a peak of 4.45 million during the overtime.

How many teams from the SEC are headed to the Big Dance?
Just how many teams out of the SEC are headed to the Big Dance?
We will get a clearer picture over the next week.
The 2024 SEC Conference tournament gets underway on Wednesday from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. As conference tournaments begin, the SEC looks to have as many as seven teams in the field.

Former Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim has been calling games this season for ESPN, and this week he’s doing it at a familiar place—the men’s ACC Tournament, which is being held in Washington D.C.
Boeheim angered a lot of fans during Tuesday night’s Louisville–NC State first round game when he took a shot at a Wolfpack player for having some fun while celebrating a teammate’s big play.

Connecticut is ready to make another run at a national title, but who will join them in the Big Dance out of the Big East?
Three teams in the Big East — Connecticut, Marquette, and Creighton — look to be locks for the NCAA men’s tournament field.
How many will join them?
The latest installment of the Big East Conference tournament gets underway Wednesday at legendary Madison Square Garden and for five teams, their tournament fates may hang in the balance.

The NFL’s early negotiation period is in full swing, as free agents have already started agreeing to terms on contracts with their new teams that can become official starting Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.
As usual, the first wave of big moves can have a massive impact on the draft landscape, as many teams have already been able to fill some of their biggest needs with marquee veterans on the open market.
