INDIANAPOLIS – Practically any other year and in any other NFL draft, Jayden Daniels could be the first overall pick. And he still might be.
That’s according to two NFL personnel men who spoke with OutKick at the NFL Scouting Combine this week on condition of anonymity.
One of them, a general manager whose team is picking outside the top 10 selections and has “no dog in the fight,” said the tape of Daniels and Caleb Williams both speak of players who will start immediately in 2024.
“That’s not a question with them,” he said.
Note: This is an eight-part series that will run each day on OutKick, with one division in the NFL covered each day. Find the whole series here.
Buccaneers: Job 1 is to re-sign Baker Mayfield and the Bucs are using the weeks prior to the launch of free agency to negotiate that deal. The Bucs would also like to retain receiver Mike Evans but that’s a two-edged sword because he is highly productive but is also 31 next season. So a four-year deal for a 31-year-old receiver? Tampa has significant talent threatening to walk in free agency.

Sorry, weird NFL Draft prospects, but birds are in fact real
You may have heard the youths online claiming “Birds aren’t real.” It’s supposed to be a satirical conspiracy theory around the idea that birds are actually drones that spy on us at the behest of the American government.
But some people truly believe birds aren’t real. Case in point: 2024 NFL Draft prospect and former Illinois tight end Tip Reiman at the combine.

Wembanyama’s rapid ascent is impossible to miss.
The NBA was packed with exciting games on Thursday night that directly impacted its incredibly tight playoff picture. The Denver Nuggets knocked off the Miami Heat in an NBA Finals rematch, the surging Golden State Warriors picked up another win over the New York Knicks, Devin Booker went off to carry the Phoenix Suns over the Houston Rockets. Somehow, the rapid progression of Victor Wembanyama has a way of rendering everything else momentarily irrelevant.
Draymond Green is the type of guy who keeps receipts. Anytime anyone says anything about him – specifically anything remotely critical at all – Green stores it in the vault to bring it up when the moment is right, and one of those occasions presented itself following the Warriors win over the Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Thursday.
Green jumped on Golden State’s postgame show for a quick interview with Festus Ezeli, Bonta Hill, and Chris Mullin of NBC Sports Bay Area.
Anthony Kim is making his highly anticipated LIV Golf debut this week and it didn’t take long for him to show some rust.
Kim hasn’t played in a professional event since he pulled out of the 2012 Wells Fargo Championship with an injury. Fans have long wondered if he’d ever come back to play again, and this week that surprisingly happened.
He’s now back with LIV Golf, where he’ll play the rest of the season, and his first round in the event at Jeddah did not go very well for him.
Look at this cold shank Kim hit:

Atlanta Braves ace Spencer Strider led the league in strikeouts last year while also picking up a league-best 20 wins on the season.
It looks like the right-hander is ready to do even bigger this year as he showed off a new curveball in Thursday’s spring training game against the Minnesota Twins that had fans in awe.
Strider has long had one of the most unhittable fastballs in the MLB, and his slider has been lights out as well. Now this curveball is going to make things even harder for the poor hitters that have to step into the box and face him.
Johnny Manziel doesn’t seem overly interested in slap fights with online trolls.
Manziel is back in the news after he did an awesome in-depth interview with Shannon Sharpe about his rise and fall.
The lengthy interview covered his pretty much every facet of his life, including how he flamed out with the Browns. One of the more notable parts was Manziel claiming he didn’t have a good relationship with former teammate Brian Hoyer.
Hoyer has since responded saying his issue was with management – not Manziel.
Victor Wembanyama posted 28 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 blocks vs. Chet Holmgren.
