It’s hard to fathom that this is an accurate statement, but for the first time in a year we’re going to talk about Scottie Scheffler winning a golf tournament in this week’s edition of Par Talk. The No. 1 player in the world had a great putting week, and when that happens, there isn’t a human walking the planet that can beat him. His five-shot victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational was a not-so-gentle reminder of that.
In other news, Rory McIlroy opened his mouth again, this time calling for the PGA Tour to shrink.

The start of the new league year will soon be full of shiny new team additions, bringing some hope and excitement to fan bases similar to what the NFL draft will bring next month. But these additions will be far riskier than draft additions, simply due to their cost. Unlike cost-controlled draft picks, these players have reached the cherished status of free agency, with the leverage of multiple bidders and the riches that come with that.
Having been in the Green Bay Packers’ front office for almost a decade, it will come as no surprise that I am not a big fan of NFL free agency.

Right after Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes beat the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the Big Ten women’s basketball tournament championship on Sunday afternoon, the Hawkeyes star took a quick detour before celebrating with her teammates in the locker room.
An elated Clark changed course when she saw a group of young fans waiting to meet their basketball idol. She ran to the other side of a rope and had security guards follow her to the side of the hallway.
The 22-year-old guard signed various posters and items for the young fans, who cheered with joy when she ran over to them.

Brock Purdy may not have ended the season with a ring from Super Bowl 58, but he got a far more important one on Saturday.
The San Francisco 49ers quarterback officially got married to his fiancée, Jenna Brandt (now Purdy), after being engaged for roughly a year. Over 350 people attended the event in Des Moines, IA, the state that both Purdys are originally from.
Naturally, the new Mrs. Purdy posted a heartwarming tribute celebrating the wonderful event. Both the bride and groom looked incredible and thoroughly overjoyed to begin life with each other.

1. While a naked John Cena has gotten most of the attention when it comes to Sunday’s night Academy Awards, people should not overlook the performance of comedian John Mulaney
Mulaney, who was on hand to present the award for Best Sound, decided to use his time on stage to do a sidebar, which was a rapid-fire, passionate, detailed one-minute explanation of 1989’s Field of Dreams.
I don’t even like Field of Dreams, but I thoroughly enjoyed Mulaney’s speech.

Utah State coach Kayla Ard announced in the most awkward way possible she’d lost her job.
The Aggies women’s basketball team finished the season with a 5-25 record after losing in the Mountain West tournament 85-49 Boise State.
It was the final game in what was a truly horrific season for Utah State. How does Ard plan on rebuilding? Well, she was asked that exact question after the loss, and gave basketball fans a painfully awkward answer that won’t be forgotten at any point in the near future.
“I’m not going to be rebuilding.

Kobe Bryant’s Lakers statue is the grammar police’s nightmare
The Los Angeles Lakers unveiled a Kobe Bryant statue to great fanfare earlier this year. It turns out that statue has multiple typos engraved in it.
International NBA journalist Andre Voigt first noticed the misspellings. There are three big mistakes on the statue in the box score of Bryant’s 81-point game against the Toronto Raptors from 2006: Jose Calderon’s name is spelled as Jose CalderSon, Von Wafer’s name is spelled as ‘Vom’ Wafer, and “coaching decision” is spelled as “Decicion.

This QB switch for the Steelers is set to pay off in a big way.
The Steelers made waves before the start of free agency with Russell Wilson announcing his intent to sign with Pittsburgh when he’s officially released by the Broncos and enters free agency.
It’s a bombshell move that owns the mistake of drafting Kenny Pickett, accepts a new path is needed, and looks to move forward in a different direction. Meanwhile, Russ has already updated his profile pic on Twitter to him in a Steelers jersey, and has a hype video already.

Year 13. Grateful.
