Thanks to her strong back nine, Yuka Saso proved herself worthy of a U.S. Women’s Open champion at Lancaster Country Club.
Yuka Saso’s hopes of winning a second U.S. Women’s Open almost evaporated on the 6th green on Sunday.
She four-putted for a double bogey, which frazzled her and dropped her back to 1-under for the championship.

We’ve reached that point in the sports calendar where there isn’t a ton going on. The NBA and NHL are wrapping up, the MLB is starting to hit the dog days of summer and the NFL is still three months away. That can make it tough for sports writers to find interesting things to write about.
That’s why when my wife texted me a tweet, I was intrigued. Normally, I’d have dismissed such a tweet if it were, say, the middle of the NFL season. But on a Sunday in June, I was curious.
In May, the Tri-City Chilli Peppers (a collegiate summer league baseball team in the Coastal Plain League) announced that they’d be playing a game of “Cosmic Baseball.” Essentially, that means that the baseballs, player’s equipment, and everything else at the ballpark would be glow-in-the dark.
A bold and risky move, no doubt, but a risk that I was certainly on board with when I first heard the news.

Ernie Els emerged victorious at the Principal Charity Classic in Iowa, where he won for the first time on the PGA Tour Champions this year.
The ‘Big Easy’ made things look easy in Des Moines, Iowa on Sunday.
Ernie Els, known for his sweet and simple swing, won the Principal Charity Classic on the PGA Tour Champions, his fourth career victory on the senior circuit.
When Els made the turn, he sat at 16-under, in a tie with Bernhard Langer and Vijay Singh.
Donald Trump stole the show at UFC 302 on Saturday night, but an NFL player’s appearance also had people buzzing.
New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers received major recognition at Prudence Center on Saturday but was quickly upstaged by former President Trump — a political opponent of sorts to Rodgers — in a crescendo of cheers at the star-studded event. The crowd went berserk as Donald Trump walked out into the arena with UFC President Dana White.
Trump’s reception only added to the ex-president’s momentum en route to November.
Hull’s smoking on the course got a lot of attention on social media.
As someone who attends at least one PGA Tour event per year (usually the Travelers Championships, which is held in Connecticut, where I live), I’m not sure how I feel about this story. Here’s what happened: C.T. Pan’s caddie, Mike “Fluff” Cowan, suffered an injury during Sunday’s round at the Canadian Open.
The fan, Paul Emerson, saw what was happening and asked if he could do anything to help. Apparently, Pan took him up on that offer and had Emerson carry his bag until a replacement caddie could be summoned.
There’s no two ways about it: Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark has brought more fans and popularity to the WNBA than the league has had in decades.
During a game earlier this year in Seattle, the Storm’s home court hosted its biggest crowd in history thanks in large part to Clark’s presence. Record numbers of fans are tuning in to watch games in which she plays. Sure, the rest of the league’s games might not be getting the same viewership numbers, but it’s far better than what the WNBA has experienced in years past.
New York Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole will begin a minor league rehab assignment this week, according to manager Aaron Boone. Cole has been sidelined with elbow inflammation.
