After missing 21 games, Warriors wing Andrew Wiggins is nearing a return and is expected to play this week, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Wiggins missed the large chunk of time because his father, Mitchell, has been dealing with a serious medical situation, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
For Golden State, his return couldn’t have come at a better time with the regular season nearing an end. The Warriors (41–38) are currently the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference, but their playoff position is anything but safe.
Only two wins separate the No. 5 and No.

NBC is expected to hire Islanders announcer Brendan Burke as the lead play-by-play broadcaster for Peacock’s MLB Sunday Leadoff, The New York Post’s Andrew Marchand reports.
Last year, NBC aired a baseball game every Sunday morning during the regular season on its Peacock streaming service as part of a new deal with MLB. The network had play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti at every game, along with two color commentators from each team playing that day.

At the end of the battle between two of the best women’s basketball programs in the nation, LSU head coach Kim Mulkey had nothing but praise for Iowa’s Caitlin Clark.
Mulkey and Clark met in the postgame handshake line after LSU had defeated Iowa 102-85 in the national championship. Mulkey was set to celebrate the fourth championship of her career after Clark and the Hawkeyes gave them everything they had in the final game.

Another biological man might have just taken a trophy away from deserving women.
The WPGA Tour of Australasia — a small professional women’s golf tour based in Australia — just announced Breanna Gill as the winner of the Australian Women’s Classic Bonville.
“Showing nerves of steel, Breanna Gill triumphed in a playoff for her first professional win at the #AusWomensClassic!” the WPGA Tour tweeted Sunday.

The problem is Gill, by all accounts, is not actually a woman.

More than a decade ago, Alex Gibney was preparing a documentary on Lance Armstrong when the plot changed. Armstrong was revealed, incontrovertibly, not just as a mendacious, pugnacious cheater, but something worse. When you punch down and sue your masseuse for defamation, all the while knowing she was correct when she accused you of doping, you are not going to earn anyone’s sympathy. Gibney handled the curve masterfully, and his documentary, The Armstrong Lie, gave the subject his due as an athlete, while laying bare Armstrong’s badly dented character.

After LSU women’s basketball won the national title on Sunday, one of the most notable Tigers players in team history wasn’t able to join the on-court celebration right away.
Seimone Augustus, who played for LSU from 2002 to ’06, stood outside the yellow ropes as the 2023 Tigers celebrated their win over Iowa and the team’s first title in program history. NBC’s Maria Taylor noticed Augustus on the outside and wanted to help her get to the team.
In a video caught by The Daily Advertiser’s Cory Diaz, Taylor can be seen speaking with security and comforting Augustus.

Sean McVay has high hopes for Matthew Stafford going into next season.
Stafford led the Rams to a Super Bowl at the end of the 2021-22 season. In his first year with the franchise, the veteran QB won the team a ring.
However, last season was a very different story. Stafford had serious health issues that plagued him, and he finished the year with 2,087 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions in nine games. It was a disaster by any metric for Stafford and the Rams.

Former longtime Indiana men’s basketball coach Bob Knight was hospitalized Friday evening with an acute illness, the Indianapolis Star reported Monday.
A message sent to program alumni informed the Hoosiers community of the news, per the Star. It’s unclear what the illness is at this time.
“Please join us in sending prayers to coach Knight and his family,” the message read, according to to WDRB’s Rick Bozich. “Coach Knight was admitted to the hospital Friday evening and is currently recovering from an acute illness. The family’s hope is to have him back home soon.

There are plenty of adjectives former players used to describe Alabama’s new defensive coordinator Kevin Steele. From “intense” to “a winner” social media posts from Reggie Ragland, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and others were praised for bringing Steele back to Tuscaloosa. “He demands perfection and he makes sure everybody’s playing up to his standard,” Anders said.
