Kansas State men’s basketball coach Jerome Tang won the 2023 Naismith men’s College Coach of the Year award, it was announced Sunday.
Tang, in his first season with the Wildcats and as a head coach in college basketball, helped lead the Wildcats to the Elite Eight for the fourth time in program history. In their NCAA tournament run, Kansas State beat Montana State, Kentucky and Michigan State before losing to FAU in the Elite Eight. The Wildcats finished the season 26–10.

On Saturday night, San Diego State’s Lamont Butler sent the Aztecs to the national championship game on a buzzer-beater vs. FAU. While the play instantly became the highlight of the men’s tournament, it also almost never happened.
Butler had the ball for the last eight seconds of the game, which included dribbling along the baseline trying to find a way to the hoop. While he was down below the basket, Butler was at risk of stepping out of bounds, but he just barely stayed inbounds by what seems like millimeters.
The result was a moment that will be remembered forever in San Diego.
San Diego State pulled off a last-second win against Florida Atlantic on Saturday night and advanced to the NCAA men’s national championship game thanks to Lamont Butler. The guard made a buzzer-beating jumper as time expired to secure a 72–71 victory for the Aztecs.
