The surprise is that Calvin Ridley is going to the Tennessee Titans in what is the biggest contract agreement since the start of the NFL’s new league year.
Ridley will get a reported $92 million on a four-year deal with the Titans. And that $23 million per year will position Ridley as the NFL’s ninth-highest paid receiver on an annual average basis.
Ridley, you should know, had been negotiating with the New England Patriots since Monday when the free agency negotiating window opened. He had previously been talking with the Jaguars, for whom he played in 2023.

Former Mavericks forward Grant Williams was shipped out of Dallas after less than a season for reportedly becoming a locker room pariah over his constant babbling.
Williams’ ‘playful’ trash talk reportedly started rubbing teammates and personnel the wrong way, including Mavs star Luka Doncic.
Now, a new story from within the organization corroborates Grant Williams’ status as a locker-room nuisance.

If you were looking for insight into just how absurd Major League Baseball management is, the Oakland A’s might have provided the single best example.
The A’s are on their way to Las Vegas, legal challenges aside, recently releasing renderings of their proposed new stadium on the Las Vegas Strip.

Unsurprisingly, they concurrently removed signage at their existing stadium in Oakland celebrating the team’s heritage.

Baker Mayfield signed a three-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the heels of a solid season that saw him lead the team to the post-season after bouncing from Carolina to Los Angeles the year before.
On Wednesday, the team held an official press conference to formally announce the three-year $100 million deal, with Bucs GM Jason Licht giving him one heck of a compliment.
Even if didn’t exactly sound like a compliment.
Licht was asked a lengthy question about how Mayfield’s toughness helped the team make it to the postseason for the fourth straight season.

Former NFL defensive end Chris Long is remembered fondly in many corners.
Virginia fans esteem him for a superb 2007 season that saw him finish 10th in the Heisman Trophy voting. St. Louis Rams holdouts can point to his eight seasons performing capably for mediocre teams.
New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles backers, meanwhile, remember Long as a steady veteran presence on championship teams in 2016 and ’17.

The Tennessee Titans are signing Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Calvin Ridley to a four-year, $92 million contract, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday. The deal includes $50 million guaranteed.
Ridley was a free agent after spending one season with the Jaguars, a year in which he started in all 17 games and totaled 1,016 yards and eight touchdowns.
The 29-year-old will join receivers like DeAndre Hopkins, Chris Moore and Treylon Burks on the Titans. Tennessee went 6–11 last season, placing fourth in the AFC South.

The San Francisco 49ers have been active early on in free agency, both in securing some important signings as well as freeing up cap space by parting ways with players.
Among those to leave the team this offseason was veteran defensive lineman Arik Armstead, who was released Wednesday ahead of the final year of his contract. Armstead was due to make $17.4 million in base salary while carrying a cap hit of $28.3 million, prompting the team to cut him at the start of the new league year.
That’s a decision that not everyone on the team seems to have been on board with.

The Tennessee Titans are signing quarterback Mason Rudolph to a one-year deal worth up to $3.62 million, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Wednesday.
Rudolph previously spent his entire career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, as the Steelers drafted Rudolph in the third round of the 2018 NFL draft. In six seasons, Rudolph played in 21 games, starting 13, and totaled 3,085 passing yards with 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while leading the Steelers to an 8–4–1 record.

Mitch Albom—the longtime sports columnist for The Detroit Free Press and a bestselling author—was among a small group evacuated from Tuesday from Haiti amid widespread unrest in the Caribbean’s most populous country.
Albom, 65, described his ordeal in a Tuesday night statement.
“After two days of coordinated efforts, a group of us from the Have Faith Haiti Orphanage, including my wife and myself, were evacuated in the middle of the night from a site in Haiti (not our orphanage),” Albom said.
