Indiana State was one of the feel-good stories of college basketball this year. The school’s success in 2023-24 evoked the halcyon days of Larry Bird, and reversed decades of mediocrity for one incredible run. In the end a 29-6 record wasn’t good enough for the selection committee, who snubbed the Sycamores for their loss in the Missouri Valley tournament to Drake, pushing Indiana State to the NIT.
The choice was antithetical to everything we love about college basketball in March.

The PGA Tour shifts to the Lone Star State for the Texas Children’s Houston Open, where a Texan arrives as a heavy favorite.
The PGA Tour heads to Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston, Texas, where two of the top four players in the world will tee it up this week. Scottie Scheffler, who has won two events in his last two starts, is in the field, as is reigning U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark.

Washington reportedly pulled the trigger on hiring Danny Sprinkle.
The Utah State coach will leave the Aggies and take over the Huskies following a second round exit from the NCAA Tournament, according to Jeff Goodman and multiple other reports.
Sprinkle went an incredibly impressive 28-6 in his only season at Utah State.
There’d been whispers about Washington wanting Sprinkle, and the school reportedly went out and got it done. This is a hell of a hire for the Huskies.
I said last year that the Wisconsin Badgers should hire Sprinkle if Greg Gard was going to be fired.

ORLANDO – The union between Russell Wilson and the Pittsburgh Steelers was sealed in Mike Tomlin’s mind when he realized what drives the former Pro Bowl and Super Bowl quarterback.

Another week on the PGA Tour, another long-shot victor. That’s been the trend for 2024, but Peter Malnati’s win at the Valspar Championship had a different feel to it, especially after his post-round comments.

Houston walk-on Ryan Elvin saved the Cougars season with a clutch free throw after multiple players fouled out.
The No. 1 seed Houson Cougars ran into major foul trouble at the end of their round of 32 matchup against Texas A&M on Sunday night. By the end of the game, three players fouled out, including Emmanuel Sharp, who scored 30 points in the game, Ja’Vier Francis, and Big 12 Player of the Year Jamal Shead.
Houston was out-scored 13-3 in the final minute of the game. The Cougars’ stunning collapse allowed Texas A&M to force overtime. Suddenly, a No.

The Sweet 16 start times are utterly outrageous, and fans shouldn’t have to tolerate this nonsense.
The next slate of games gets underway Thursday when Clemson and Arizona tip at 7:09 EST Thursday, and San Diego State and UConn tip at 7:39 EST.
Alabama and UNC will then tip roughly 30 minutes after the conclusion of Clemson/Arizona and Illinois/Iowa State will tip roughly 30 minutes after UConn/SDSU.
That means the second pair of Thursday games – as well as the late window Friday – almost certainly won’t get underway until well at 10:00 p.m. EST.

Just like with Atlanta in the NL East, it’s all about what Los Angeles can do in October instead of the regular season.
While the NL Central may be wide open, there are no such delusions of grandeur to be had in the NL West. That means that it’s probably going to be another long season in Denver for the Colorado Rockies, who are very likely going to spend another season in the cellar.
