PHOENIX — NFL teams are having something of a numerals crisis now in that they have a bunch of players who want to wear single-digit numbers but there aren’t enough to go around. So the league on Tuesday addressed that by allowing players to wear No. 0 starting next season.
It’s one of 15 rules, bylaws and resolutions owners adopted Tuesday.
Oh, and before you ask, one change the league did not make was to the so-called quarterback push play.

Bronny James is 15 days away from his first opportunity to sign his National Letter of Intent and make his college decision official. The son of LeBron can sign at any date between April 12 and May 17.
James must announce his decision by May 17.
In the meantime, some of his prospective future teammates are hard at work to try and get him to join them. Especially Isaiah Collier.
Woody Johnson indicated New York has a “plan” regarding the trade.
The Jets and Packers are still trying to figure out the perfect recipe for an Aaron Rodgers trade. While Rodgers has expressed his desire to play in New York, the two sides have yet to work out a deal.
At the NFL owners meetings on Tuesday, Jets owner Woody Johnson indicated he’s still “pretty confident” a trade will get done.
“We’re pretty confident we can get something done,” said Johnson via Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.
The NFL recognizes that onside kicks are currently a problem. With the new kickoff rules where players cannot get a running start, onside kicks are very difficult to recover.
But the league wants teams that are trailing to have an opportunity to get the ball back after score. Of course they do because that increases drama and excitement. As fans, we want that too.
Last year, only 5% of onside kicks were recovered by the kicking team. There was a spike in 2021 where 16% of kicking teams recovered, but the prior season it was 4%.
Houston Roughnecks defensive back Ajene Harris leads the XFL in interceptions through six games of the first season of the league’s third reboot. He also leads the XFL in unsportsmanlike penalties for squirting an official with water from the sideline.

Seriously. That’s an actual thing that happened during Monday night’s game against the D.C. Defenders.
Late in the third quarter, as the Roughnecks faced a 15-point deficit, Harris may have let his frustration get the best of him.
This was too funny
Major League Baseball games are going to look a lot different this year thanks to a number of sweeping rule changes, including a pitch clock that has caused a number of weird moments during spring training.
One of those moments happened in Tuesday’s game between the Yankees and Nationals. New York pitcher Nestor Cortes tried to get tricky with the pitch clock and get away with throwing a pitch right at the eight-second mark when Washington’s Jeimer Candelario looked up at him.
He’s the first player to announce he’s taking the new number.
The NFL decided at the annual owners meetings Tuesday that players will now be allowed to wear the No. 0 and one wide receiver has already announced he’ll be making the change.

Baltimore was one of the 12 teams that attended Beckham’s workout a few weeks ago.
