The Owls’ commentator nearly missed out on the biggest moment of his career.
Florida Atlantic‘s historic run through the NCAA tournament reached new heights Saturday after the Owls knocked off No. 3 Kansas State in the Elite Eight in order to reach the program’s first Final Four.
For FAU Radio Network’s Ken LaVicka, this is one of the pinnacles of his career. And the commentator almost missed out on calling the final moments of the win due to a technical malfunction at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan.

The 51-year-old UNC legend and national champion is beginning treatments.
On Saturday, North Carolina basketball shared that former national champion Tar heel great Eric Montross has been diagnosed with cancer.
The program shared a family-issued statement concerning the health of the 51-year-old Montross, saying that he is beginning treatments and thanking fans for their support.
“We are all touched by the responses our entire family has received since the news became public,” the statement read.

The Owls may have taken a jab at KSU with their post-game music choice.
Florida Atlantic is headed to its first-ever Final Four, and the Owls didn’t hold back with their post-game celebrations. After sending Kansas State crashing out of the tournament, despite the valiant efforts of Markquis Nowell & Co., FAU celebrated its win by subtly trolling the Wildcats.
After punching their ticket to Houston for the Final Four, the Owls flaunted their win by dancing to music by rapper Lil Baby, in what appeared to be a jab at Kansas State.

Jerome Tang’s postgame speech and actions reveal that the Wildcats have a true leader.
In critical moments, both on the court and off, the best coaches are those who lead not only in victory but also in defeat. On Saturday, Kansas State coach Jerome Tang displayed everything a program would desire from a leadership perspective.
At the podium, after his club’s loss to Florida Atlantic in the Elite Eight on Saturday night, Tang showcased why he is a coach his players love and respect.

Linebacker Bobby Wagner is headed back to the Seattle Seahawks, just months after saying the team “gave up” on him.
The Seahawks-Wagner reunion news was broken by Wagner’s former teammate Quandre Diggs. That was fitting, as Diggs had been open about wanting the Seahawks to bring Wagner back into the fold.

According to my sources future hall of famer LB Bobby Wagner has agreed to terms to return home to the Seattle Seahawks.

If you thought the chaos was only happening on the court between FAU and Kansas State, the Owls radio play-by-play announcer was dealing with his own kind of March Madness.
Ken LaVicka was in the middle of calling the final thirty seconds of a history making moment for Florida Atlantic fans listening on the radio. Everything had gone right for the entire game, up until eighteen seconds left on the clock.
During this time, as FAU hung onto a slim lead, the power went out on press row, mainly his connection through an ethernet cord.

The 20-year-old’s MLB debut is just around the corner.
Cardinals top prospect Jordan Walker won’t have to wait much longer before making his MLB debut.
St. Louis GM John Mozeliak announced Saturday evening that the 20-year-old would be on the Cardinals’ Opening Day roster for the 2023 season, a huge development for the organization’s coveted outfielder.
Walker, the No. 21 pick in the 2020 MLB Draft, has dominated at every level of minor-league ball he’s been to.
