Death. Taxes. Greg Gard being a problem in the Big Ten.
Those are three things you can count on in life.
A few days ago, I wrote a lengthy column arguing that the head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers deserves to be in the conversation for coach of the year.
I hope you all read it and paid attention because he put on a clinic Saturday on the road against Purdue.
The Badgers beat seventh-ranked Purdue 94-84 to improve to 20-5 and 10-4 in the Big Ten, and it’s the latest sign that Greg Gard is putting on the coaching performance of his life.

Dylan Larkin scored in the second period, and Team USA made it hold up the rest of the way, as the Americans outlasted rival Canada 3-1 in the 4 Nations Face-Off on Saturday night, securing a berth in the tournament final on Thursday night in Boston.

Friday night’s Four Nations Face-Off game between Team USA hockey and Team Canada was expected to be an emotional, hotly contested matchup of the two tournament favorites. And boy oh boy did it live up to the hype and expectations.
It started before the puck even dropped, with the Canadian crowd at Bell Center in Montreal booing the US National Anthem. Then the two sides immediately dropped the sticks and gloves for three fights in the first nine seconds of game time.

Someone is getting fired
When a jersey goes up in the rafters, it’s supposed to be an iconic moment. The player’s family is out there, the crowd is clapping for a legendary player and the moment lasts forever.
However, former Illinois’ guard Terrence Shannon Jr.’s iconic moment back in Champaign went…well, awkwardly. Someone in production and execution of the jersey being raised might’ve had a bit too much before the ceremony, leading to this awkward moment.

The Boston Red Sox entered the offseason having missed the playoffs in the last three consecutive seasons. For a team with the Red Sox’ recent history, market size and four World Series wins since 2004, urgency should have started to set in.
And based on how they’ve handled the 2024-2025 free agency period, it’s clear their ownership and front office certainly felt it. While much of the offseason attention has focused on the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets, for good reason, the Red Sox might unexpectedly be the most improved team in baseball.
