Indiana broke the NIL bank to land a coveted big man in the transfer portal.
The transfer portal has given each player in college basketball the opportunity to become a free agent after every season, and that’s been a highly profitable arrangement for the select few coveted by the biggest brands in the sport. Oumar Ballo knows it better than anyone.
Ballo was a four-star, consensus top-100 recruit in the class of 2019 behind top dogs like Anthony Edwards and James Wiseman.

Patrick Mahomes is inarguably the best player in and the face of the NFL, one of the last remaining mono-cultural entities in society.
His status atop the sport could span over a decade. He’s just 28 years old.
Mahomes has the talent, résumé, charisma, and star power to be every bit as influential as Michael Jordan or LeBron James before him, well exceeding Tom Brady who concealed his personality for much of his (for now) GOATed career.
The question then transitions to whether Mahomes will be more Jordan or more LeBron.
In the world of chess, you’d better tread lightly, and I mean that in the most literal sense possible.
That’s right, kids; we’ve got another controversy from the world of chess, and for once, it doesn’t involve a player using a sex toy as a cheating aid.
Sorry if that disappoints you…
The Candidates Tournament is happening right now in Toronto and features eight of the best chess players in the world.
As you may have picked up from chess stories in the past, that world is full of “characters,” for lack of a better term.
Georgia’s star tight end, Brock Bowers, is the top prospect at his position, but will he be another Sam LaPorta for fantasy football? Andy Behrens gives his thoughts.
An interesting editorial appeared in the Harvard Crimson student newspaper on Tuesday. The article is titled, “There Are Many Obstacles Facing Women’s Sports. Trans Athletes Aren’t One.”
As soon as I saw that headline, I knew I was in for a good read. Then, right below the headline is this important note: “This staff editorial solely represents the majority view of The Crimson Editorial Board. It is the product of discussions at regular Editorial Board meetings.
Matt Rhule must be a fan of the movie “Miracle.”
Rhule is entering his second season in Lincoln after an up and down 5-7 first year that included a 45-7 blowout loss to the Michigan Wolverines early in the season.
How did the first-year Nebraska coach respond to getting absolutely rocked by Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines?
By beating the brakes off on them on what should have likely been an off day Sunday.
The Stanley Cup Playoffs get underway this weekend, so you can understand why the NHL reportedly wants the situation surrounding the Arizona Coyotes‘ move to Utah done and dusted before it starts.
Of course, that’s much easier said than done.
TSN’s Pierre Lebrun reported that the NHL is hoping to get everything with the Coyotes finalized before the playoffs.
Well, apparently the NCAA is not dead yet.
The beleaguered NCAA Enforcement staff slapped the much-investigated Michigan football program for recruiting violations under former coach Jim Harbaugh during a COVID-19 dead period in 2020 with a three-year probation, recruiting limitations and a fine on Tuesday, according to the NCAA office.
The recruiting penalties and amount of the fine have not yet been disclosed.
The NCAA’s investigation will also continue with a second part focusing on Harbaugh, who did not participate or cooperate in the investigation.
It’s not often that the low amateur in the Masters steals the spotlight during the green jacket ceremony inside Butler Cabin at Augusta National, but that’s exactly what Neal Shipley managed to accomplish over the weekend.
Shipley, who qualified for the Masters as the 2023 U.S. Amateur runner-up, was the lone amateur in the 2024 Masters field to make the cut, and the Ohio State grad student had himself a Sunday.

After winning the Masters and returning home to Dallas, Scottie Scheffler showed a side rarely seen in the public eye.
Scottie Scheffler won The Masters in historic fashion Sunday, claiming his second Green Jacket in a three-year span.
After doing so, he fulfilled his media obligations, posed for pictures in front of the 18th green, spoke to the press, and then headed straight to the Augusta airport.
