While athletes from around the world are flocking to Paris in hopes of winning Olympic gold, Italy’s flag bearer already lost a bit of gold in the deep, not-as-sewagey-as-it-once-was waters of the Seine.
High jumper Gianmarco Tamberi — who famously split the gold with Qatar’s Mutaz Essa Barshim at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics — was given the honor of being his nation’s flag bearer during Friday’s opening ceremony, but perhaps that flag waving got a little too vigorous, and it led to Tamberi’s wedding ring flying off his finger and into the river.

How much money are you going to be making over the next four years? If you’re Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love, that answer is $220 million.
Yup, you read that right. After his first full season in which he barely got the Packers into the playoffs, Green Bay made Love one of the highest-paid players in NFL history. (If I could go back in time and tell my younger self what career path to take, I wouldn’t hesitate to tell him he should be a quarterback).
Now that Love has got his massive pay day, that means that the 2020 quarterback class has raked in some serious cash.

UFC 304 is happening on Saturday in Manchester, England but that didn’t stop the folks at Canada’s Sportsnet from asking some of the fighters on the bill to give their expert takes on some classic hockey bouts.
Of course, they agreed because when someone says, “Do you want to watch some hockey fights?” the answer is always an automatic yes.

The New York Yankees are shoring up their struggling offense.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Yankees are acquiring infielder/outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the Miami Marlins. While the full return has not yet been reported, it’s arguably the biggest deadline deal yet, given Chisholm’s profile and past production.
Chisholm has yet to reach the heights of his 2022 season, but remains an above-average hitter who also contributes on the bases and provides some positional versatility.

In UFC 304’s co-main event, interim Heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall runs it back against Curtis Blaydes after their first encounter ended in disaster.
UFC 304 is a solid card with several fun fights.
