Former NHL player Tony Hrkac sprang into action and saved a league employee’s life at a recent game in Los Angeles.
Hrkac — a name that ironically looks like the sounds someone makes when they’re choking — was a journeyman center in the NHL who played over 750 games in the league from 1986-87 to 2002-03. Hrkac had stops in St. Louis, Quebec, San Jose, Chicago, Edmonton, New York (Islanders), Anaheim, and Atlanta. He was also a member of the 1999 Stanley Cup-winning Dallas Stars.
He continued his pro hockey career for several years after that in the American Hockey League.

Current UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland made some waves this week with his comments about gay people, transgender ideology and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
During a media event on Wednesday, a Canadian reporter took issue with social media posts Strickland made in the past about how he would feel if he had a gay son. Strickland wrote that would mean he failed as a man.
The Canadian reporter, a self-described “ally of the [gay and lesbian] community,” wanted answers on a tweet that was over two years old.

Golden State’s game against the Dallas Mavericks (24-18) on Friday has been postponed in the wake of the death of Warriors assistant coach Dejan Milojevic.

Milojevic, 46, suffered a heart attack during a private team dinner Tuesday night in Salt Lake City. The Warriors (18-22) appeared in Utah for Wednesday’s game against the Jazz.

The Buffalo Bills are asking for fans to volunteer at Highmark Stadium once again this weekend to help shovel the snow before the AFC divisional game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The team hired shovelers last Monday to help shovel multiple feet of snow before the wild-card game vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers. Once again, the team is requiring the fans to be at least 18 years old and to try and bring their own shovels. The work starts on Friday at 2 p.m. ET, two whole days before the game.
The shovelers will earn $20 an hour and will have access to a warm break area.

Rose Zhang is making her first start of 2024 at the HGV Tournament of Champions, but after Sunday’s final round we won’t be seeing the 20-year-old on Tour for a while. For the next 10 weeks, Zhang will be gearing up for a mid-March restart to her LPGA season while taking a full load of classes at Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif.
When Zhang turned professional after two historic collegiate seasons for the Cardinal, she made a commitment to finishing her degree in communications, much like her role model and close confidante, Michelle Wie West.

Much has been made this week of the gap between the quarterbacks remaining in the AFC and those left in the NFC.
The AFC is a veritable knife fight, with Lamar Jackson’s Baltimore Ravens, Josh Allen’s Buffalo Bills, Patrick Mahomes’s Kansas City Chiefs and C.J. Stroud’s Houston Texans jockeying for a Super Bowl berth.
The NFC, meanwhile, has Brock Purdy’s San Francisco 49ers, Jared Goff’s Detroit Lions, Baker Mayfield’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jordan Love’s Green Bay Packers left over.

Former Colorado Rockies first baseman Todd Helton is arguably the best player in franchise history, as he has a legitimate chance to get inducted into the Hall of Fame next week. Helton spent his entire career in Colorado, but apparently, the Rockies came very close to trading him at an inopportune time.
Colorado and the Boston Red Sox reportedly came close to a trade agreement that would have sent Helton to Boston, according to The Athletic’s Stephen J. Nesbitt.

Things are not going well for the Toronto Maple Leafs and they just got a blistering reality check from ex-NHLer and Norris Trophy-winner PK Subban.
The Leafs have lost four in a row going into their Thursday night tilt with the Calgary Flames. To make matters, worse, they’ve blown leads in three of the four, including a two-goal lead against Edmonton on Tuesday and a three-goal lead to Colorado last week.
Bad times for a team with Cup expectations ahead of the season.
… unfounded expectations, but expectations nonetheless.
