Wednesday night’s ending to a Bucks–Pacers game proved to be one of the most bizarre nights in recent NBA memory thanks to some controversy surrounding the game ball. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored a career and franchise-high 64 points in the win, but drama quickly followed as he was seen furious on the court when he found out Indiana had taken the game ball.
Apparently, Pacers rookie Oscar Tshiebwe was given the game ball because he scored his first career-point, leading Antetokounmpo to storm into the tunnel to try and retrieve it.

For parts of four glorious seasons, Dodgers pitcher Joe Kelly was his team’s one and only No. 17. The reliever proudly donned a number that had in the past graced pitchers from franchise luminary Carl Erskine to Hall of Famer Jim Bunning, who spent one season with the club.
However, Kelly was overshadowed by the other No. 17 in Los Angeles—quite the feat considering how rarely his team is outshone. That arrangement is no longer, as Kelly has ceded his old number to designated hitter and pitcher Shohei Ohtani.

Still a waste of money.
It’s a great week if you’ve ever wanted to go to an NFL game and only have two quarters to rub together.

You got two quarters?

Upper level seats for Falcons vs. Panthers are selling on the secondary market for 45 cents, which still might be too much in order to witness what has a chance to be the saddest three hours of football this season.

Well, the bloom is officially off the rose for Josh Dobbs. The Minnesota Vikings traded for Dobbs after quarterbacks Kirk Cousins and Jaren Hall suffered injuries. Arizona parted with Dobbs just prior to the return of Kyler Murray.
Hall started the first game without Cousins but suffered an injury on the team’s second drive against the Atlanta Falcons. That forced Dobbs into action less than a week into his tenure with the team. He improbably led the Vikings to a thrilling 31-28 victory.
He followed that up with a win over the New Orleans Saints in his first start with the team.

Eli Manning knows a thing or two about playing quarterback for the Giants.
Manning spent his entire career in Big Blue, winning two Super Bowl titles as the team’s starting quarterback. And as it turns out, he loves the way rookie Tommy DeVito has played since taking over under center in New York.
“Hey, they’re winning games,” Manning told Dan Duggan of The Athletic. “Three games in a row. He’s finding a way.”
Manning is particularly impressed by how DeVito has taken care of the football, especially considering the fact that he’s in his first NFL season.

Former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger went on a rant on his podcast Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger this week and controversially questioned the integrity of the team’s leadership this season.
The comments stem from the past two games, in which the Steelers lost to lowly opponents. (Both the Cardinals and Patriots entered their recent matchups with Pittsburgh as two-win teams.)
Roethlisberger sais he’s afraid the “Steelers tradition” and “Steelers toughness” he knew hasn’t been passed down to new members of the team.

The perennially forlorn Lions have had a 2023 to remember, posting nine wins in their first 13 games. Detroit is on the doorstep of its first playoff appearance since 2016, and its first division title since 1993 seems very much in play.
Amazingly, the Lions haven’t missed a beat despite being without one of their banner offseason acquisitions for much of this year: defensive back C.J. Gardner Johnson. One of the NFL’s 2022 co-leaders in interceptions hasn’t played since tearing a pectoral during Detroit’s 37–31 overtime loss to the Seahawks on Sept. 17.

Mavericks star Luka Dončić has a not-so-little troll living inside him.
The Dallas guard pulled out all the moves on and off the court in Monday’s 120—113 win over the Grizzlies, from smooth stepbacks to impish antics. Dončić finished with 35 points, eight rebounds, and six assists in the victory, but his most memorable moment may have been a particular interaction with a Grizzlies fan.
During a break in the game, Dončić noticed that a Memphis fan sitting a few rows behind him was crying foul, complaining about how the referees were officiating the game.

Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe is returning for another season in Tuscaloosa, he announced on Tuesday, with his team preparing for the upcoming college football playoffs.
After leading his team to an SEC championship win over Georgia just two weeks ago, the quarterback has already decided on his future plans. Finishing sixth in the Heisman Trophy race should make him a favorite for the award in 2024.

Joe Flacco excelled in his first two games with the Browns, as the veteran went 1-1 with 565 passing yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. That was enough for Cleveland to officially sign Flacco to their active roster off the practice squad, and the team made sure to incentivize the quarterback’s deal to reward him should he continue to lead the Browns to victory.
As part of Flacco’s one-year deal, the veteran has the chance to earn $4.05 million based on winning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.
