Though fans often view their teams as institutions that are permanently associated with their cities, like, say, airports, in reality they’re almost always privately owned companies. That means relocation can be used as a form of extortion for public funding.

Rickwood Field in Birmingham will host the Giants and Cardinals, and the teams will wear Negro League throwbacks
Next week the San Francisco Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals will play at Rickwood Field, in Birmingham, Alabama. Rickwood Field remains oldest professional baseball field in the United States, and was the former home of the Birmingham Black Barons of the Negro League.
And the teams will be wearing Negro League throwback uniforms as part of the celebration.
The Black Barons played their Negro League home games at Rickwood Field from 1924 through 1960.

Team USA is down, but not out.

Hockey fans were fired up on Wednesday when a report emerged that suggested that the Minnesota Wild were planning on shedding their red and green Christmas-y get-ups in favor of a green and yellow look that pays homage to the Minnesota North Stars.
Excited? I was too, but another report throws water on that by including a statement from the team that says this idea isn’t “based in facts.”
It started from a report by hockey jersey and logo website Icethetics, which is usually pretty good when it comes to this sort of thing.

Thomas, the biological male who won a women’s national championship in 2022 while swimming for Penn, has officially lost a legal battle against World Aquatics in which Thomas argued their ban from competing against females was “invalid and unlawful.
