Florida quarterback Graham Mertz left the loss to Tennessee midway through the third quarter on Saturday with what appeared to be a non-contact knee injury. As we know, non-contact knee injuries never look good. That’s the case with Mertz, who Billy Napier announced will miss the remainder of the season.
Make no mistake, it’s a tough blow to Mertz and the Gators. Mertz currently leads the SEC in completion percentage at 76.6%, and finished last season in the same spot after completing 72.9% of his passes in an offense that gave him virtually no help.

When Brooke Slusser chose to speak out against transgender athletes in women’s sports, she knew she’d experience some pushback. Now, she’s finding out just how intense that pushback can be.
Slusser is a teammate of Blaire Fleming, a trans-identifying male on the San Jose State women’s volleyball team. Last month, Slusser joined more than a dozen other female athletes in suing the NCAA for Title IX violations for allowing male athletes to compete in women’s sports and to utilize their locker rooms.

It is way too early to be considering NFL coaching changes because nobody fires a coach six weeks into the season – until the Jets did it after Week Five.
So that has put everyone around the NFL on notice that turnovers don’t happen only during games.
In this edition of the NFL highs and lows of the week, we look at otherwise good head coaches such as Kevin Stefanski, Mike McCarthy, Doug Pederson and others, who are definitely on the hot seat already.
The Lows:
Kevin Stefanski: he was the NFL coach of the year in 2023. But his team is 1-5 and has lost four consecutive games.

The Nevada women’s volleyball team held a vote among players and voted to forfeit an Oct. 26 match against San Jose State and transgender player Blaire Fleming, OutKick has exclusively learned.
The Nevada athletic department said in an exclusive statement to OutKick on Oct. 3 that the team would play the scheduled match. However, the school did not consult with the players before making that statement.

On paper, the Philadelphia Eagles’ offense is loaded with talent. So far this season, though, that talent hasn’t translated to production on the field. And right tackle Lane Johnson has the perfect explanation.
“We’re a constipated offense,” Johnson said. “That’s what it f*cking feels like.”
The Eagles beat the (very bad) Cleveland Browns on Sunday, 20-16. Despite the W, though, the offense was wildly inconsistent and — for the fifth-straight game — failed to score any points in the first quarter.

The Detroit Lions announced a positive update Monday morning about Aidan Hutchinson’s health.
The star defensive end and elite pass rusher suffered an incredibly gruesome lower body injury during a blowout win against the Cowboys.
It was immediately clear that the situation was very serious and both teams huddled around Hutchinson until he was carted off the field and rushed to a hospital.
The team announced Monday morning that Hutchinson underwent successful surgery after suffering a fractured tibia and fibula.
