What’s at stake during the final NFL weekend of 2023
The final NFL week of the 2023 calendar year started on Thursday night, with a game between the Cleveland Browns and the New York Jets that had playoff implications for Joe Flacco and not Aaron Rodgers.
Imagine reading that sentence back in August.
But thanks to their 37-20 win over the Jets on Thursday Night Football, the Browns are back in the playoffs.
Here are the teams that can join them, as well as the Jets in the ranks of the eliminated, this weekend.

Negotiations between the PGA Tour and Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) to agree on a merger and create a new for-profit entity could drag into the Spring of 2024. Given that both sides have appeared to be working against one another instead of with one another over the last few months, this news comes as no surprise.
The two sides self-appointed a Dec. 31, 2023 deadline to agree on a merger after announcing plans to do so back in June, according to The Telegraph, a new deadline of April 2024 is expected to be announced before the end of the year.
Shortly after Georgia clinched the national championship with two late scores against Alabama in the 2022 CFP title game, Stetson Bennett visited coach Kirby Smart. The quarterback’s performance in leading the Dawgs to their first championship in four decades had already conferred upon him a sort of permanent BMOC status.
“Everybody’s telling me I should just ride off into the sunset, be the legendary quarterback who won a national title,” Bennett (above) said to Smart.
The lineman hops on a Zoom call one day after the college football team he plays for made national news—and not for its undefeated season. Well, sort of for that, because the Florida State Seminoles did win each of their 13 games, did impress with their star quarterback and after losing him to injury. The Seminoles, in fact, did everything they could to make the College Football Playoff—only to be left out anyway.
That’s not the reason Casey Roddick, the versatile offensive linemen in question, is on the video call.
Cleveland Browns receiver Elijah Moore appeared to suffer a very serious injury Thursday night against the Jets.
The talented receiver appeared to go into the ground pretty normally after making a standard catch, but things took a very scary turn.
Moore appeared to drive his head into the ground, and it looked like parts of his upper body immediately seized up.
The Browns receiver then started shaking uncontrollably on the ground as players signaled for help. He didn’t return to the game.

Joe Flacco might have taken a moment to rest his eyes during a blowout win over the New York Jets.
Flacco and the Browns ran it up on the Jets to the tune of 37-20, and Flacco finished the game with three passing touchdowns and 309 passing yards.
The Super Bowl champion continues to take the NFL by storm since being slid into the QB1 role in Cleveland. The man is putting up numbers.
In fact, he’s balling out at such a high level that he can’t even be bothered to keep his eyes open while on the bench.
Lee Corso will have to be dragged off the set of College GameDay before he chooses to leave it.
Corso joined GameDay right at the start in 1987, and has become the face of the ESPN program over the past 36 years.
The man has plenty of legendary moments during his decades as a major college football figure. Whether it’s putting on headgear or maybe letting a curse word slip on TV, he’s given fans plenty to laugh about and enjoy.
However, he’s currently 88 and will be 89 before the start of next season.
