Michigan Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy didn’t let the program’s ongoing sign-stealing investigation distract him from helping the team win games this season.
McCarthy believes college football teams stealing signs has “been around for years” and is a normal practice in the college football landscape. However, during Wednesday’s College Football Playoff conference call, the Wolverines’ star said the program’s latest scandal is a response to Ohio State legally stealing Michigan’s signs in previous years.

At 38 years old, Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco isn’t taking anything for granted this season.
Flacco, who signed with the Browns in late November, has been making his case for the Comeback Player of the Year award with his unbelievable performances of late. The former New York Jets quarterback has led Cleveland to four straight wins and racked up 1,616 yards and 13 touchdowns while completing over 60 percent of his passes.
His numbers on the stat sheet tell one story.

In many years, most years, the Fighter of the Year reveals themself well before the end of December. That’s especially true in recent ones, where Dmitry Bivol (2022), Canelo Álvarez (’19 and ’21) and Oleksandr Usyk (’18) had boxing’s most coveted honor sewed up before Thanksgiving. This year the debate didn’t just rage into the last month, but the last week, with Naoya Inoue making his closing argument on Dec. 26, stopping Marlon Tapales to earn undisputed status in the 122-pound division.

Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid told reporters Wednesday that quarterback Patrick Mahomes won’t play in the team’s regular season finale against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Blaine Gabbert will get the start.
Mahomes won’t be the only starter to sit out for Kansas City, per Reid, having already locked up the AFC West. His season ends with 4,183 passing yards and 27 touchdowns to 14 interceptions in his 16 games played. He completed 67.2% of his passes in his eighth year out of Texas Tech.

Stephen A. Smith gave one of his most controversial takes yet to open the new year on First Take.
Following Michigan’s Rose Bowl victory over Alabama, Smith said on First Take that he believes the Rose Bowl should be moved from its historic venue and be played at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. instead due to traffic considerations.
“How about having the Rose Bowl at SoFi? How about that?” Throw a few roses there… I mean listen, there are a whole bunch of things in life that are historical.

While former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas is unlikely to actually pursue any legitimate comeback at age 41, he let the world know he hasn’t lost his ability to knock down the deep ball. And in the process, he had a quick message for LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers, a team that certainly could use another outside shooter or two.
During a clip posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, Arenas posted himself knocking down 16 of 17 shots from three-point range in roughly 90 seconds. He also made 11 in a row after missing his first shot on the sixth attempt.
