Saturday’s NFL Divisional Round playoff game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans will be a real world test weighing rust versus rest – the idea of keeping players out of the lineup in order to get them healthier at the risk of them losing their edge.
And OutKick medical expert Dr. David Chao is confident that in the case of Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, rest will prove to outweigh rust this game, especially as it pertains to the quarterback.
“I would argue that the upside of his ankle being better outweighs the rust issue,” Dr. Chao said of Mahomes.

The 39-year-old head coach has set Notre Dame up for success in the College Football Playoff.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are appearing in their first National Championship game since 2012 and aiming for their first National Championship victory since 1988. It won’t be easy though, as the No. 8 seed Ohio State Buckeyes (13-2) are 8.5-point betting favorites against No. 7 seed Notre Dame (14-1). However, a major reason why Notre Dame has a fighting chance against the Buckeyes is because of the decision to hire Marcus Freeman three years ago.

South Africa’s dreams of hosting an F1 race take a crucial next step
On Friday South Africa’s Ministry of Sport, Arts and Culture announced the release of the Request for Expression of Interest (RFEOI) for parties interested in participating in the country’s bid to host a Formula 1 race, starting in 2026 or 2027 “and beyond.”
This is a critical next step in the country’s aim to join the F1 grid.
In the announcement Gayton McKenzie, the nation’s Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, highlighted the significance of this milestone.

Mike Tomlin will never be out of a head coaching job if he doesn’t want to be, because if the Pittsburgh Steelers ever moved on, another team would immediately hire him – and the Chicago Bears proved that point recently by trying to do just that.
The Bears were the most aggressive of a couple of teams that did work on possibly trading for Tomlin when they contacted the Steelers to seek permission to speak with the coach about a trade. They were rebuffed, according to an ESPN report confirmed by OutKick.

When it comes to hockey, there’s nothing better than a goalie getting involved in some way.
Last night, Pittsburgh Penguins fans were treated to a historical moment when goalie Alex Nedeljkovic became the first hockey goalie ever to score a goal and an assist in a single game.
The best part was, however, when Alex immediately skated over and took the equivalent of a Steelers leap into the stands, only in this case – he did it into his own team’s bench.
