After he finished in Paris, Rory McIlroy discussed golf’s current state and its role at the Olympics.
Even though Rory McIlroy’s watery demise on the par-4 15th hole ultimately sealed his fate, leaving him short of a medal, the Ulsterman still had an “amazing” week in Paris.
He likened this year’s Olympics to the Ryder Cup, McIlroy’s favorite tournament on the planet.

U.S. beach volleyball duo Andy Benesh and Miles Partain will compete in the Round of 16 on Monday. But they’ll have to do it without their coach, Mike Placek — because they decided to fire him in the middle of the Olympics.
The split came after a rough start for Team USA’s top pairing. Partain and Benesh began Pool D play with a loss to Cuba in their opening match on July 27. Then, they had to battle to a 28-26 win in the second set of a 2-0 win over a bad Moroccan side on Tuesday. They got the W, but it wasn’t pretty.

After 10 holes in the final round of the Olympic men’s golf tournament, seemingly only one question remained: who is going to win the silver and bronze medals?
That’s because Jon Rahm had just taken a four-shot lead over the field and appeared poised to cruise to the gold medal. But Scottie Scheffer did what Scottie Scheffler does: play incredible golf down the stretch of a pressure-packed tournament.
And Jon Rahm did … well, usually what Rory McIlroy does (although we’ll get to McIlroy in a moment).

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler shot his lowest round of the year en route to his gold medal victory in Paris.
After Saturday’s third round, in which Scottie Scheffler shot a 4-under 67, the World No. 1 referenced Nicolai Højgaard’s 9-under 62, a score that soared the young Dane up the Olympics leaderboard and tied the course record.
