Feb. 25—FARGO — On a 20-degree night in February 1969, following a snowstorm that clobbered much of North Dakota, 600 people stood outside the Civic Memorial Auditorium in Fargo, waiting and hoping they’d be lucky enough to see the hottest show in town.
They weren’t.
Inside, the Harlem Globetrotters had reached capacity. In all, 3,357 people got there earlier to claim general admission seats — for a whopping $1.50 to $3 apiece.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Texas Tech had the best college defensive line money could buy last season.
Ends David Bailey and Romello Height each had double-digit sacks totals and were ranked among the top 15 in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Tackles Lee Hunter and Skyler Gill-Howard each relished their opportunities to take on blockers and let teammates fill in the gaps.
The immediate payoff came with the Red Raiders celebrating their first outright league title since 1955, their first Big 12 crown and their first College Football Playoff appearance.
Feb. 25—AIKEN — Aiken High’s Steve Smith, boys and girls tennis coach, said he knew when he met Alex Hammel during his freshman year that the student athlete had the potential to reach greatness.
In a full circle moment, Smith was one of multiple proud witnesses as Hammel signed to play for Erskine College’s men’s tennis program which took a six-year hiatus following its 2018 season but is returning in full swing for the 2025-26 season.

Safe to say that a lot has happened since Hughes last pulled the New Jersey sweater over his head and skated on Prudential Center ice.
Hughes scored the gold medal-winning goal in overtime to defeat Canada during the 2026 Winter Olympics. The 24-year-old is now arguably the biggest American hockey star thanks to his heroics in Milan and fans in Newark let him know.

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitcher Roki Sasaki commented on his disappointing start against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday.
Sasaki made his first start for the Dodgers since May 2025, and struggled to get outs in the first inning. He allowed three runs on three hits and two walks while recording three strikeouts, and only lasted 1.1 innings despite being slated to pitch two at the beginning of the day.
“There were some positive things, but also things I need to work on,” Sasaki said through an interpreter.
On-field testing at the NFL Combine begins on Thursday. Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz recently spoke to the media on Tuesday before the drills begin.
Here are a few defensive tackles that Hortiz and Jim Harbaugh could be watching during their time at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Peter Woods, Clemson
Getting defensive coordinator Chris O’Leary a blue-chip defensive tackle in the first round should be something the Chargers are strongly considering. Woods is an explosive interior defender with natural athleticism, possessing a violent first step and rare lateral quickness to shoot gaps.

If you planned on killing some time this afternoon by watching some Mariners Cactus League baseball – or more enticingly, Bryan Woo’s first outing of 2026 – you were out of luck. For the first time this spring, we were confined to the narration of Rick Rizzs, Gary Hill Jr., and Charlie Furbush, with some scant video across socials filling in some gaps.
Olympic gold medalist Hilary Knight isn’t thrilled with what President Donald Trump said to the U.S. men’s hockey team after its gold medal win — but she’s also making one thing very clear: the backlash toward the men’s team is misplaced.
During a locker room phone call following the men’s gold medal victory in Milan, Trump congratulated the team and invited them to the State of the Union address.
Birmingham City manager Chris Davies said his team failed to compete with Millwall in their 3-0 defeat at The Den.
Davies told BBC Radio WM: “I said to the players that we have to hold our hands up and say we didn’t deserve anything from that match. We were well below the competitiveness required when you come to a place like this, firstly to keep clean sheets and then to have a go yourself in the game.
“This is a timely reminder of how challenging this league is, and what you have to do in every single game, and we weren’t good enough.

Juventus’ Manuel Locatelli on Champions League heartbreak: “Makes me want to cry”
Serie A giants Juventus suffered a heartbreaking knockout from the Champions League in the playoffs against Galatasaray, despite being 3-0 up at the start of extra time while being down to ten men.
Lloyd Kelly was controversially sent off when the Bianconeri were only 1-0 up. They two dramatic second-half goals to level the tie on aggregate, but the Turkish side got two goals in extra time to send a famished Juve packing out of the Champions League.

I think we have all lain awake at night trying to make sense of one of the greatest mysteries of our time: why do basketball sneakers squeak?
…No? Just me?
What do you lie awake thinking about?
I mean, I think we know the process through which the squeaking sound you hear over the course of any basketball game is produced. You simply have a rubber sole rubbing against the hardwood floor over and over again.
There’s been a concerted effort to blame the Los Angeles Dodgers for “ruining baseball.”
The thinking for some fans seems to be that an ownership group should, instead of building the best possible team with the financial resources at their disposal, pocket more in profits. This mentality, inexplicable as it is, has been used by owners of teams in smaller markets or with less financial resources, to tell fans that they simply can’t afford to compete with the Dodgers.

The aftermath of a viral postgame phone call with President Donald Trump continues for the gold medal-winning U.S. men’s hockey team. After the controversial moment, in which Trump invited the American men to the White House and the State of the Union and then joked about having to invite the women’s team or else “I probably would be impeached,” players are facing questions as they return to their NHL teams.

Yahoo Sports’ 26-and-under power rankings are a remix on the traditional farm system rankings that assess the strength of MLB organizations’ talent base among rookie-eligible and MiLB players. By evaluating all players in an organization entering their age-26 seasons or younger, this project aims to paint a more complete picture of each team’s young core. Our rankings value productive young major leaguers more heavily than prospects who have yet to prove it at the highest level, and most prospects included in teams’ evaluations have already reached the upper levels of the minors.
The Baltimore Ravens‘ need for reinforcements along the offensive and defensive lines was evident throughout the 2025 season. Inconsistent protection and a lack of push in critical moments exposed depth concerns in the trenches, prompting fans to call for upgrades at the trade deadline and on the waiver wire.
New head coach Jesse Minter addressed that need at the NFL Combine when asked about the importance of building depth along both lines.
“It’s an O-line [and] D-line driven league.

INDIANAPOLIS – Everything we’ve heard from the hometown Colts during the current NFL Scouting Combine leads to only one conclusion about the club and Daniel Jones: They’re really into each other and that will soon be affirmed when the pending free agent signs a new contract with the team.
This is curious in some respects because it obviously means the Colts are all in on Jones. And Jones is all in on the Colts.
Despite reasons both should perhaps be shopping for other options.
But they’re not.
European soccer fans are just different. Sure, we’ve got rowdy groups of sports fans across the United States with college football fans and NFL fans probably claiming the top two spots in that regard, but what we routinely see out of soccer fans across the pond – for better or for worse – is on an entirely different level.
This brings us to supporters of the Italian side Torino FC, a club in Italy’s top division, Serie A.
Torino hasn’t won the Serie A title since 1976, which also happens to be the only time the club has qualified for the Champions League.

The legal battle between trans-identifying male golfer Hailey Davidson and the women’s tour NXXT Golf just escalated.
After Davidson filed a lawsuit in December challenging NXXT’s decision to restrict competition to biological females, the tour — represented by America First Legal — has now filed a motion to dismiss the case.
“We are asking the courts to dismiss the claims, and we’re addressing the matter,” NXXT Golf CEO Stuart McKinnon told Fox News Digital.
“This was about simply protecting women’s sports.

GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) — Scotland supporters can wear their kilts in all their customary glory at the World Cup.
The Scottish Football Association told The Associated Press on Wednesday that it had reached agreement with FIFA for sporrans – the traditional fur or leather pouch worn in front of the kilt – to be permitted at games despite contravening security limits for entry into stadiums in the United States, which is co-hosting the June 11-July 19 tournament with Canada and Mexico.

Emre Can laments individual mistakes after Dortmund’s Champions League elimination
Borussia Dortmund captain Emre Can was understandably disappointed after his team squandered a 2-0 first-leg lead in their Champions League playoff against Atalanta on Wednesday, crashing out following a 4-1 defeat in Bergamo.
Can highlighted individual errors as a major factor in the loss, without calling out any teammates directly.
“If you concede four goals in the playoffs, it becomes very difficult to progress,” the BVB captain said in a post-match interview.
